Agreed, let's just appreciate it for what it is - a very fast time that will inspire many masters.

Age grading is seriously flawed, especially when it "converts" times that are way faster than what the same individuals were able to run in their prime, with full training.

egun - And not only are you neither a vice president or entrepreneur, you probably aren't much of a runner either. Probably not as fast as Rich. Probably not as successful in either running or life-outside-of-running as most of the people on this board. I think running this fast is very inspiring. Makes me want to break 5 minutes this year and I am 42. Great job!

I am curious about this mark and if this guy ran any mile races during this time?

4:12.5 Ron Robertson NZL 55 09.02.97 55-59 world 1500 record which seems to be like a 4:31 mile converted.

By the way, I am regarded as a successful business owner and I have a family and I pursue my running dreams everday.

That being said, I agree completely with So Cal Pete Mr. Egun. You sound Jealous and childish. Anyone pursuing a dream or passion even if it is a singular pursuit is noble in my book. Egun, stop making excuses why you don't run to your potential. It doesn't look good on you.

All the running shoe store clerks I know are college students - usually doing something sports related.

That raises an interesting point. I am new to the Masters scene but there seem to be a high proportion of people running moderately successful businesses, or pretty secure in their professions.

Do people think this is because

(a) the qualities that make you a good distance runner tend to lead to success in life? or

(b) nobody else has the time? or

(c) we're all hypercompetitive unfulfilled saddos having a (comparatively cheap and family-friendly) midlife crisis?

Whatever the reason, a lot of us are having fun.

It's pathetic to see a kid so jealous of an AARP candidate who runs a 4:36 mile. Imagine what a bitter crock he'll be when he gets to that age.

His list of types he admires is telling. Vice presidents? Entrepenuers (sic)? This kid's clearly a product of his times.

He just like 8 out of 9 white guys on here. The old white guys do it also.

Bob- I think EGUN is actually close to the age as Rich. Just guessing from a psychological profile of what EGUN wrote I would put him at around 52 and a decent runner say about a 38 minute 10K guy or so who often wins his age group when the real players don't show up. The real players being of course the guys he writes so jealously of and tries to justify or make excuses why he is far from that level. EGUN is a typical hater but he is not kid!

Jack Ryan's Melbourne Australia is still alive. 93 years old and has Parkinson's. I'm his daughter. We have all his world records framed for him.
