I can't think of something more lame than setting up a blog and making a post on letsrun, claiming to be two different people all just for trolling. I mean, who has the time for this? Personally I hope it's real. And I hope the race happens. Although I'm confused since "Jake" said he ran 4 miles, running by feel and not sure of the pace, and it "ended up" being 8:10s. How did it "end up" being 8:10s? How was he timing/measuring it? It was on a trail. I don't think he bought a Garmin after not running 5 years.

I understand not posting on the internet where and when the race will be - it's a bit creepy thinking of people who might come. Or not. BUT, you should certainly video it and post it later. With both parties' confidence, I would think they would be all for it.

Why would having a blog be part of the bet? You're f***ing roomates, who the hell else needs to know about this f***ing bet? Other than letsrun but supposedly your buddy doesn't come on here.

How would your roomate know in his blog that you would be around 4:50 shape? That was your estimation, did you tell him this? I think this little fact right here is the most damning.

The newest blog post is just f***ing awful. "I’m not even really into the idea of anyone but myself and my roommate being involved." Yet you then mention that the OP posted this on a message board so it was obviously never meant to be between just the two of you. Then here comes another line of hypocrisy "I’ll update here and so people can follow that, but I have no intention of making a show of it." I thought this was for your roomates, not for the other people? And why no video or anything? Makes no damn sense.

This is by far the most pathetic trolling effort ever because you put a shit ton of time into this and it's not even that clever or funny.

Alright letrun let's put an end to this. As is you have a 17:30 5K guy against a 22:10 guy (6:24 mile using the MacMillian calc). Bottom line is there is just NO WAY and this is just a waste of our time.

BUT, what if we introduce "the great equalizer" into the situation. Yep, I'm talking about a BEER MILE. Maybe the 17:30 guy is faster but if the 22:10 guy has been wasting his time and fitness on drink he might just have a chance to drag the fast guy down to his level.

Now a Beer Mile would be a real bet. As is, you're just wasting our time here. So, man up and make this a real challenge.

I once took two and half years off of running. All I did was drink and smoke. About 2 years ago I wanted to see how fast i could do a mile. I trained for 2 weeks, hit 3 workouts and ran 4:50. So its not impossible.

I did run 1:57/4:16/9:12 in high school though.

Yeah, Boom caught on. They were about to be exposed.

I ran 419 in high school (in h.s. i trained hard) and i recently ran 453 on a track off of almost no training as a 30 year old (at 6-4, 200 lbs, it´s been 5 or 6 years since i´ve run consistently). i was 175 lbs when i ran 419

Be careful there. You sound like me, and I have a story for you.

I'm 30 now, PR of 4:36 for a full mile, 5Ks in mid 17's, just running for enjoyment but not training to race. My road 5K PR is 16:36, my half marathon PR is 1:18, and my marathon PR is 2:53.

I had a friend in college who ran 4:15-ish in high school, and did not run for his first 3 years of college, not a step, during which time he porked up from a racing weight of probably 145-150 to a healthy beer pong weight of about 185.

Then, junior year of college, he decided he wanted to run a marathon.

It is probably relevant to note at this point that his motivation to run a marathon was his twin brother having just run a 2:28 in his debut effort (age 21, training solo, not on the college team). Their mother's PR is in the 2:55 range. Athletic family.

After his 3 years of zero running followed by about 2 months of jogging, at which time he was probaby still about 180 pounds, give or take a couple of pork chops, we raced a 5K together.

I had been running regularly and was in good shape generally, but made no effort to peak or anything. I ran the 5K in about 17:15 or so.

He kicked my @ss.

My not trying to peak was irrelevant. He obviously wasn't trying to peak either, and I've only run faster than he did in that race 3 times in my life. After 3 years of beer pong and 2 months of jogging, he would have kicked my @ss pretty much no matter how well I ran. I'm glad I didn't have any money riding on that.

Epilogue: The next month (i.e., 3 years of beer pong followed by 3 months of jogging), probably still a pork chop or two over 170 pounds, he ran 2:50 in his poorly-paced marathon debut, beating my half marathon PR en route.

My much more talented -- but much lazier -- friend from high school heard I was running marathons, and he made it his mission to run a faster time than me. (We're in our mid-30s and live in different cities.) So, he checked marathonguide.com, saw I ran a 2:58:45, trained for a few months, and ran a 2:58:30. Mission accomplished! Only problem was that there was a chip malfunction that took a few days to fix, and the 2:58:45 was the gun time -- the chip time was a 2:58:15. He says that he's now too lazy to train for another one.

Right, and all those times just happened to be exactly 15 second increments. What is your purpose in life?

If you must know, the gun time was really a 2:58:47, and the chip time was really a 2:58:14. I don't recall his time to the precise second. Sorry for rounding.
