base was a mixture of 2-5min cruise interval things once a week with a tempo run w/ hill charges afterword once a week and a moderate fartlek once a week, the rest of the days were easy runs.. during the season was a bit more work with more hills and faster repetition workouts, all in all i liked him as a coach he was great.

it sounds pretty good training what was ur miles a week
it was around 40 to 50 for base and a little lower in season

What do you want, 100mpw? The guy was a young 800m runner.
jesus christ no. i know alot of guys who do 70 mpw and there 800 meter runners. god 100 mpw is too much at a young age. i think 40 to 50 is fine. especially for the 800, just saying ik successful people at 70 mpw but they built it up to that level. i guess he prob wasnt a consistent trainer and that was the perfect mark for him which is perfectly fine.

RE anyone ever done it. I asked several years ago and got no responses. It was hard to compare the two when I could only find one guy who coached folks.

starting in the fall of 2004, i was beginning my senior year of college. his method was very scientific, though he never tried to impress me with technical jargon. it was simple actually. after barely 2 months of training, i ran a road race and set a 5k PR. then in august my D1 XC team held tryouts, which was actually a 2 mile time trial/race. i placed in the top 5 but chose not to run on the team. a few weeks later i set another 5k time trial. by the winter time i was in good enough shape to run the same workouts (and actually did) with sub-150 800m runners.
and if it makes a difference
prior to meeting tinman, i had trained SERIOUSLY for 4 years and my 800m PR was a 2:03. after training under him for less than a year i ran a 1:53.

What is the definition of 'high end' aerobic training?
id like to say that tinman sounds very successful with two runners on you but has anyone had the same success with kellogg?

I can not comment on J Kellogg, however I have been on the runzone.com, and Tinman (or Tom) is an excellent coach. if you are looking to improve, using a long-term approach, I would just "ask" Tinman.

http://www.letsrun.com/2005/jkfitness.phpJK is big into workouts (either continuous runs or repeats with short rest intervals) at the lactate threshold, or sometimes lactate threshold plus or minus 5%. Long tempos at 95% of LT, or short (400s) repeats at 105% LT.
ex: "I usually prescribe 10 x 3 min. with 30-60 secs. rest periods. The idea is to hit the highest end of aerobic effort for the early reps (maybe cross the threshold a little at the tail end of some of the latter reps) and rest only long enough to feel ready to go again."
The threshold he talks about is Daniels' "T" pace, aka the lactate/anaerobic threshold (here we go with ambiguous terminology
im liking this thread, im learning alot it seems to me that tinman is more quality over quantity and kellogg is quantity
You left Tinman and train with pete mcgrill. Excellent coach right!!
