That's a myth. Several studies have been done and there's no difference between NFL players (or other athletes) and the general population.

American Football is relaxing and enjoyable with 2 minutes between plays, infinite substitutions if you \"don\'t feel well and want to take a restful break\", timeouts, cheerleaders, Gatorade, portable A/C machines, massage therapists, Acupuncturists.

the goal of american football is is score points not to bash and injure your opponents brains in. and injury or hard hit is a result of trying to score points>hard tackling to bring your openent down or sacking the QB in the pocket is an act aimed at trying to prevent your opponent from scoring points.
in America we value athleticism and skill in sports ahead of brute strength. if this wasn't the case, kickboxing would be the most popular sport, but it isn't.
true, I bet most of the guys here really like "grindy"/"hardworking" white players that give max effort and teamwork to win.
BS! give me the best athletes, that's why people want to see lebron play and not jj reddick.
European 'soccer' is worldwide
NFL is in America and don't quote me on a couple of clubs over here - nobody is interested
Why do they call football in America a game you play with your hands?
because 100 years ago, there was not such thing as a forward pass.
the original game of football was more similar to rugby, as players kicked the ball often to score points.
I really don't care if people outside the US care about American Football, your argument really doesn't make a difference.
The only reason you see huge hits in Football is the pads. Without the pads and helmets every hit would be potential death or serious injury for both players.

Actually, it's not a myth. Average lifespan for NFL players who play at least 5 years: 55. For linemen it's 52. Pretty scary.
http://www.nowpublic.com/sports/average-lifespan-football-player-52Soccer's pretty much boring and is only nice to watch when the highlights roll around. Rugby's pretty much the same IMHO.
Give me American Football any day.

If nobody is interested, why does Wembley sell out in about 10 minutes for that match they play here each year?
I'm with you ray!
1983 New Zealand Journal of Medicine:
Abstract:
The longevity of New Zealand international rugby players (All Blacks) is compared with the New Zealand male population to test the hypothesis that vigorous leisure time physical activity in the form of rugby in early adulthood is associated with an increased longevity. Data on 822 All Blacks since 1884 are compared with information from New Zealand life tables for males. The life expectancy of All Blacks is the same as the general population although non-Maori All Blacks live almost ten years longer than Maori All Blacks.
Center for Disease Control:
The average NFL player plays only 3.52 seasons and they lose 2-3 years of their life expectancy with each season played. Keep in mind, every season, there are almost 400 players on the injured reserve or other unable-to-play lists
Unless you have played football you can not understand how violent it is.
To be run over by someone running at you full speed who outweighs you by 50 lbs. is F---ing terrifying.

There is no comparison between Rugby and American football. I have played both and the difference is the speed of the collisions.
By the end of a single play in American football just about every player has run full speed into another person running full speed into them.
It is brutal. If Any rugby player thinks the NFL is soft buy/borrow some pads and get the biggest fastest guy you know and run full speed into each other. then repeat that 50 times and you will respect football. It is literally scary. That is wat practice consists of. Dudes running full speed into each other.
Wy do you think te average NFL player lives to be like 49.
So, it's basically the equivalent of running your head into a brick wall for a living at the expense of your mind and your health and your lifespan, but hey, at least you're not a pu55y. This is why American sports are dumb... literally.
lets see some slow rugby player take this !
proves american football is better!

That's the point. They're only able to run full speed into their opponent because they have a thick helmet and padding on. Take of the lineman's helmet and he'll be much more cautious about running full speed into the guy in front of him.

this isn't a sport. its a game of neanderthals. no respect for this sport. Sport should not include dying.

The lawyers will litigate US football to extinction. Already the players are dying from brain disorders. Tim Tebow is punch drunk and went low in the draft because of it. He'll be a vegetable in the Army in a few years.
It is the pathetic ignorance of people like JohnnyO that is making this nation a third-rate country. His statment is an embarrassment to athletes and fans everywhere.
