People don't understand the application of Vo2max just like they don't understand the application of BMI.
Neither measure is adequate at comparing individual to individual as so many other factors are involved. Proper application should be as either a)a measure of improvement or digression OR b)comparing LARGE groups.
If I have 100 "high school distance runners", 100 "college distance runners", 100 "elite runners" with average scores as follow:
HS: avg Vo2max = 60; avg BMI = 23
College: avg Vo2max = 70; avg BMI = 22
Elite: avg Vo2max = 80; avg BMI = 20
Average US: Vo2max = 40; BMI = 32
Now the above numbers are completely made up but you get my point! NOW they have value.
