There are many coyotes here in the Dallas metroplex. They are sneaky. My neighbor stepped out at 2 AM to let his dog take a wiz in the front yard. Coyote grabbed it and was gone.
Coyotes also try to get dogs to follow them into the woods. Of course, then they are jumped by a pack.
I guess I'm a wimp though because I do own guns and do carry it with me when my family and I go to the cabin for the weekend. Lots of snakes, hogs, bobcats and coyotes. I had to use it once on coyotes that attacked my dog. How wimpy of me.
The problem with this world view is that a lot of times the "safety" precaution either escalates the situation or kills the wrong person. Does the plus balance the minus? Who knows. All the stats from both sides are really biased. You can google up a dozen accidental shootings and you can google up a dozen where a gun prevents a crime. Depending on your belief system you will focus on one or the other.

The difference between your gun culture and our non-gun culture has always been a puzzle to me. I don't know too many people, other than hunters, collectors and competitive shooters, who own guns. Our country has wrestled with the idea of "gun control" but I think most people don't really see any need for it, since guns aren't really much of a problem up here.
It boggles my mind that someone would want to run with a gun, or even pack a concealed weapon under any circumstances.
I'm not anti-gun, I just don't get it.

I certainly wouldn't think someone is a wimp just because they carry a weapon. A bit paranoid perhaps (depending on the situation), but not a wimp. Personally, I was reacting to the comments about non-gun owners being pussies. You're not necessarily a wimp for carrying a gun, and you're not necessarily a wimp if you don't carry one.
It's all in your world view. I am a snake enthusiast, so I roll my eyes when I hear that someone takes a gun on a jog in case they come across a snake. It's simply not necessary. Now I know most people couldn't give a shit about some rattlesnake and thus feel completely justified in shooting first just to be safe. My mother and father in-law kill snakes every time they find one in their yard, no matter what kind it is. I try to educate them and make them understand the killing is unnecessary, and I try to help them at least be able to differentiate venomous from non-venomous (although in most cases there is really no need to kill a venomous snake either), but when it comes right down to it they don't want to be educated because they don't care about snakes and it's easier just to dispose of them than live with them........wait, what was this thread about again?
Oh, yeah...guns. I feel like carrying concealed weapons has more to do with paranoia than safety. But I also believe law-abiding citizens have the right to carry weapons if they so choose. I just don't understand it.
Perry is a Texas HOMO. It's o.k. for them HOMOs to carry guns in public to reinforce themselves. I can't blame him if he feels inadequate and has to compensate for his shortcomings. As long as what he does is legal, the entire U.S. can call that Texas HOMO a "PUSSY" and it won't matter at all.

I've never heard of anyone running with a gun before but never thought of it as a possibility and I grew up in Texas and have lived in Arizona where there are mountain lions.

I disagree. Merely carrying the gun is an over-reaction because you're taking extraordinary measures. Shooting it would be a further over-reaction beyond that. Who goes jogging with a pistol? Where do you carry it? In a holster? In your hand? Tucked in the waistband of your running shorts? I mean, you're going pretty far out of your way to expect some *serious* trouble if you go jogging with a pistol. Yes, just carrying it is an over-reaction to expected conflict of some type. If you don't expect to ever shoot it, you wouldn't ever bring it.
And carrying a gun is not "merely a safety precaution." Wearing a hard helmet in a construction site is. Wearing a car seat belt is. A hard helmet or a seat belt is not going to endanger anyone or anything. You don't get frisked at the airport for wearing a hard helmet or carrying a seat belt. But for some strange reason, guns aren't allowed. But I don't have enough common sense to know why.

I didn't know they made .380 pistols that didn't have a pink frame.
Why would the gov carry that instead of a useful round? You can get subcompact .40s or .45s for the same weight and would have a much better chance at one-shot stops.
Maybe he couldn't handle the kick, so had to use a gun designed for a ladies' handbag.
P.S. Our ex-gov from NYS is still more of a badass. He banged whores without protection and that takes cojones.
