I noticed that the mens 5K was not that fast either, some guys were 30 seconds off capabilitiy, maybe that says something. Maybe that says that the Pepsi invite was a race and not a time trial effort. And maybe Hayward field can be windy when your leading.
Hasay was running for time, not place. She went out with a rabbit. If it had been a "just win" effort, Oregon wouldn't have done that.

I think she'll run significantly faster. But let's be realistic about what the race was, not pretend it's the equivalent to... [insert absurd time].

AJR is actually held by Molly Huddle. And while we're on the topic of Hasay, hope Laurynne Chetelat (the only person in high school to beat Hasay at 3200) comes back. She ran the #2 fastest 5k AJR all time in her debut at Stanford and was looking VERY promising. She's had to sit out a year due to transferring, hope she is back next year... could definitely challenge Hasay, might even be better at the longer distances.
McMillan calculator equates 4:12 1500m with 15:40 5000m.
16:26 5k (was that what she ran?) is the equivalent of a 4:24 1500m.

Anyway, what really needs to be compared here is,not what you think she should have run at Stanford, but all the variables that went into what she did run and how that might equate in the future. First we have heard some comments regarding wind, she was running by herself, she was running for points. Just because she did not break the AJR does not mean she won't and she's "washed up". For all any of us know, they trained right throught this meet. Also, keep in mind she did beat Nicole Blood who has run 15:38:61. That in itself should put some perspective on the race and her time.

If she was just running for points, why'd she have a rabbit? That seems absurd. Why not just relax and run with Blood, the two could have easily run with the pack and pulled away over the last 1200m?
I love the posts talking about how it was meaningless, just for points. Did you miss the part where she was through 1600m in 5:00 and ran 11:25 for the next 3400m? (5:20 pace roughly) That doesn't speak of someone who was just going out and relaxing.
It's her first 5k. There's a learning curve on these things. But make no mistake, it wasn't comparable to a 15:40 run or any such nonsense.

My main point was simply, she beat another runner who runs for the same coach and previously has run 15:38. So we don't know what was done in their training leading up to the race. They both ran the same race with the same conditions and Jordan won. So that leads me to believe she will potentially run at least 15:38 unless something unforseen comes up.

that "win" counts for less in my mind given the Blood ran for points, Hasay went with the rabbit. Just a guess, but it seemed like Vin wanted to give Hasay a chance to run a hard effort before a big time 5k whereas Blood was just picking up points. She [Blood] ran quite relaxed and basically just walked away from the pack after a bit.
They weren't racing one another it seemed so it's hard to say with any certainty she's better than Blood. Plus we don't know if Blood is in 15:48 shape...
Your logic is akin to saying El G could have beaten Bekele's 5k WR in 2004 because El G beat Bekele in the Olympics at that distance. I highly doubt that was the case.
There's far too many variables to suggest Hasay can or cannot run 15:38 based on that race. This isn't to say she won't just that this race is no positive indicator of her ability to do so. All it showed was that she could run 5:20 pace solo after being rabbited through 1600m in 5:00.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that, man my goodness take a breather. Jordan will bounce back from this I'm sure; however, my point was that she simply didn't do as well as many thought she would in her 5000m debut. Washed up? No way not even close, she will have MANY other outstanding performances!
Looks like she's actually not running at Mt. SAC. neither is Blood, but Kosinski is in the 1500.
