what a great race. the one kid making a big surge early might have hurt him. It was a great DEEP race and hopefully this is something to be expected in American distance racing for years to come. People saying bad things need to keep their comments to themselves. This was a very fun and fast race which saw a bunch of high schoolers run really fast. great job to them and their coaches.
These debates on the actual distances on the races is kind of silly. I mean runners on these forums know the small differences are in the mile vs. 1600m or the 2 mile vs. 3200m.There is always going to be something. Just accept it for what it is and allow these kids to see that people are excited about their performance. debating about 2 mile and 3200 meters? Can you not see how that is just laughable? I don't think college and high school should have different distances, but its worth another debate, not one where a shit ton of kids just cracked 9.

I always assumed that the metric distances weren't 16/32, not because those are obviously stupid, but because the IAAF wanted more "scientific" distances that were all multiples of 500m, as they are in speed skating.
C'mon, you all have to admit the 1500m doesn't make much more sense than a 1600m or mile. I can see the idea behind the 3000m, 5000m, 10000m....all full kilometers and most of the world uses the kilometer instead of the mile. But honestly what sense does a 1,500m make...on a 400m metric track?
The 1600m is a relic but honestly, our 400 meter tracks are a relic of imperial standards of furlongs and quarter miles too. the 1600m doesn't make any less sense than an 800m or a 400m (or a 200 or 100 for that matter). These are just approximations of the half-mile, quarter-mile, furlong, half-furlong, etc. The longer distances make sense, as they are full Kilometers and most of the world uses the Kilometer. But the lesser distances are relics of the imperial system, and I honestly think the 1.5K was just an attempt to wrench the last remnant of imperial standard away from track and field.
