The funny thing is Republicans are stupid enough to make this guy their frontrunner.

He sounds like kind of a dick... which could be a good thing given his practice.

Actually he attempted to completely bipass the legislative process to get this law passed. In the end he had to bribe his own Congressmen, and then he goes out and attempts to mock anyone who disagrees with him. Obama is like a 4 year old, if he dosen't get what he wants he pouts and whines and blames everyone else but himself.

Obama isn't presidential material, he is nothing more than an inexperienced, corrupt, Chicago politician.

I would actually prefer Ben Franklin's "Mind Your Business." And I picked this name for a thread about a boy who refused to say the Pledge, in which I supported him.

But that aside, when someone says "Doesn't the Hippocratic Oath say..." (usually followed by the only three words anyone knows from it), they're implying that someone is acting against a statement that has defined the ideals and obligations of doctors for centuries. So in this case, it's not mere arbitrary tradition.

But the Hippocratic oath that this doctor took doesn't say anything about abortions.

No, they could be quoting from the version of the oath with which they are familiar and has been the one used in the US for over 50 years. As I've already noted nno currently practicing physician would have taken the oath you made reference to so judging them on it is rather arbbitrary. The version you refer to includes swearing allegences to multiple gods and godesses, keeping slaves and not having sex with anyone at home when they do a house call. You can't claim 5 words in one sentence are relevant, but all the other antiquated phrases are not.

One can assume the doctor who quoted the oath is familiar with the tradition of the oath, but expecting them to follow word for word a document that is out of historic context is pretty odd.

You're absolutely right. We need more people like George W. Bush whose pre-presidential career entailed:

* 40 years of being a rich immature, drunk who was arrested for DUI twice that we know of

* Who failed at every business venture he tried, even with huge family connections

* Who only made $ when the Texas Rangers handed him a nice chunk of the team because they wanted the Bush name on board, and he only put up a small amount of $ that he basically lent to himself (he was on the board of that bank)

* who went AWOL during NAM

* who was investigated for inside trading by the SEC (his company was involved in some enron type stuff), and only got off because the SEC head was a former Bush family lawyer

* and then had a fairly short stint as TX governor, elected because of his name, as the state came in nearly last in many major categories (education, pollution, crime)

Yeah, THAT's the type of guy we need !!

I'm not a Republican and I'm disappointed that the doctor in the story is one. I admire the man for standing up for himself, but don't agree with his course of action. He's implying that the Republicans would have been good for healthcare, which is false.

This poor poor doctor who put the sign up telling Obama supporters to seek care elsewhere is probably very upset that maybe, just MAYBE, under Obamacare he will not be able to buy the latest BMW every year, eat at the finest restaurants every night, and Golf at the top Country Clubs every weekend.
