UCSB men's cross country vs UCONN women's basketball on ESPN

This would be great to see. It caught my attention because I went to UCSB in the 90's. The women's bball team was ranked in the top 20 back then. Their starting five would come to the rec center and play in pick up games. They hardly ever won or held the court. 5 guys who'd never met or played together could beat them.

so I'd bet on the xc team

the guys team will be scoring all the points in the last 5 min. also they'll be in full court press and Uconn isn't used to that.

Jeff Campbell is their best player, and a low 150 800 guy, hes about 6' 4" or so. He used to play ball in high school, so they have a solid center to work around

Erik Aardall is also pretty tall, I dont know about his ability in basketball though

Scott Smith, Julian DeRubira, and Waleed Totari are the ringleaders behind this charade, so im sure they are going to play too.

Lastly, Ryan Martin, a 1:49 half miler and former CA State Runner Up in the 800 is pretty athletically talented, so i expect he'll see some minutes

The gap in athleticism between your average, college age male who partakes in regular physical activity, and a D1 women's BBall player is astronomical.

Watch a women's game, count how many times a rebound hits the ground. Count how many airballs go up. Then go watch a high school men's teams play. Count the same thing.

You tell me who would win.

Unfortunately this group has come with more attention than we anticipated and we are only at 3300 something members. We had good intentions in the beginning to hopefully create a fun, entertaining, charitable event, but to some it seams as if all we our doing is drawing attention to ourselves which was never the intention and will not be so anymore as we are deciding to delete the group before it gets any bigger. You know that saying "if you build it they will come," well we decided to invite all the people and then try and build it later. I'm a guy, I've never watched a womens college basketball game in my whole life, but the UCONN womens bball team would DESTROY the UCSB cross country team in a bball game. it's absurd to think UCSB would even have a chance. And just the fact that 35% of the people that voted on the front page actually think a group of 5'10-5'11 skinny dudes who can run fast with a low skill in bball would even have a chance against the womens UCONN team are sexist morons who think just because they are women of any skill level, any man can beat them. absurd.

As posted earlier, I read about a the fair weather fans of New England. That is shown here in this topic. Nobody showed up for Uconn men's games this year. I wonder why?

The men still average about 13,000 people a game. Plus they have won two National Championships in the past 12 years. No team from CA has won since 1995, does that mean that CA is a joke too? No, it just means you're an idiot.

Listen, I have no idea how good the CC team is, but you people above who don't think just about ANY average boys HS team could beat UCONN's women's team are ignorant. Below is my post from another thread. To the dudes up top who have been taken to school by the ladies...you just can't play.

It never had the backing of UCSB, UCONN, nor ESPN. It was a bad idea by a bunch of UCSB running nerds.

There have been guys that played high school ball from our area (near Knoxville)recruited to play against Tennessee's team for many years. The males were nowhere near being "prospects" for college. They were pretty good players, but unable to play against collegiate basketball players. Judging from that I don't see why a really good high school team would have much difficulty beating a women's collegiate team. There are some pretty good high school basketball teams every year (i.e. Lebron's high school team). Does anyone really think a high school team of that caliber couldn't dominate the women?

I've been thinking about how UCONN would destroy the UCSB XC team. They have a top-3 women's player in the last decade and years of practice. Seems like a no-brainer. To prove this I was going to provide a youtube video of Maya Moore being a complete beast in the paint. I found one where she scored 48 points in a game. However, watching the game I saw a whole lot of fast breaks led by slow women. I saw 2" verticals from this player. She sure did have good footwork and might actually physically beat up whoever would guard her, but the difference in athleticism is undeniable. There would be 5 guys beating their fast break leader back every time. This takes away nearly all easy buckets from UCONN.

I just realized I'm putting way too much thought into this so I'll finish quickly.

UCSB would have 40 blocked shots and a TON of easy fast break layups. UCONN would have the edge in free throws. I'm not sure who'd win, but I'm an ignorant male.

The real question is which team has more lesbians: the UCSB Men's XC team or UCONN women.

are you dumb? do you not know how to read? i'm not saying ucsb would win but the point of this game was said to be a charity event and to prove that distance runners aren't totally athletically challenged. They even admit to the fact that they could lose or even lose big. Like i said, i dont know if they could win (uconn has the advantage) but ucsb has several 6'+ guys. The tallest girl on the uconn team is only 6'4"

Playing vs. the former DI baller a couple of weeks ago reminded me of this (yrs ago I played ball with an all Big 10 female player), my old broken down self (after being elbowed and pushed out of the way by the female (because I let her)) could simply jump over her and tip the ball to myself like I was playing with my 6th grade nephew to get rebounds. I think I could get the other 44 yr old dudes on my HS basketball team and beat the UCONN women's team, we had a 6'7" dude who would destroy "one of the 3 best women's players the last 10 yrs". I'd pay to see UCSB cross vs. UCONN women's, maybe then they'd take their damn scores off the espn scroll and quit confusing me:)

Yes, I don't think anyone would argue that these women aren't outstanding basketball players. Clearly, they are. But, their tallest player is 6'4" and she can't jump. A 6'0" player on their team sometimes pulls down 10+ rebounds a night. A solid men's team would have a huge athletic advantage if they chose to exploit it.
