Honestly, this is so incredibly cool. This sport is great because you can chase big dreams as a working person. Chasing the OT standard is such a unique aspect to American running, and has kept the dream alive for so many. Keep pushing!
Many of the posts here resonate with me. I was a 16:40 5k, 4:40 mile hs guy. Didn’t take college seriously in the slightest. My low point was running a 4:37 1500. I was truly uncommitted trash.
I got back into running in 2022 after a couple years off. I quickly improved from 16:09 5k, 53:54 10 mile….. to 14:51 5k, 51:07 10 mile, 66:52 half, and 2:23 full. Was probably in 2:20 shape but was pretty sick the week leading into the race. Going for sub-50 10 mile, 2:19 marathon this year. Confident I can do both, if not this year then next.
Never give up the dream, work smart and hard, and don’t let some jabroni tell you that OTQing isn’t cool as hell. thanks for bringing this back after 15 years OP
