Does anyone think German Fernandez will repeat as NCAA 1500 meter Champion?

I doubt Fernandez even runs the 1,500 this year. If he does I project (I know it doesn't mean squat and I'm sure to be wrong) that Ulrey, Centro and Wheating all beat him. This is assuming that they all run and are all healthy.

Based on past performances and pr's, I see those finishing

1. Wheating. Too strong of a kick and a pr faster (albeit almost the same) than G.F. which was run over a year prior to G.F. pr.

2. Centro. Too strong of a kick and a 3? second pr faster than G.F.

3. Ulrey. Too quick of a pr, 6? seconds faster than G.F.

4. Fernandez. Sure he's never lost at 1,500m, but his pr and kick doesn't match the field.

I'm sure to be wrong though.

There has been no word out of Stillwater about German since his 1500 last summer.

His cross country season was a total disaster.

I hope not but think something is seriously wrong with him, caused by the influence of Smith/OSU.

Otherwise we would have heard SOMETHING, at least, since last summer. The longer this goes, the more I think there is going to be some kind of bad news accouncement about German.

Refer to my previous post. Look up a video from last years NCAA final. Ulrey was in that race, see what GF does to him and the rest of the field with about 75 meters to go. I believe what GF is doing in the last 75 meters is out kicking the kickers.

Don;t think you will see much of Centro for a while.

Not to be splitting hairs or getting to technical but German ran a dammm fast 5000 AFTER that 1500 National Title he won....And individually German might have not ran to your expectations or even his(more likely) but he still helped his team to a National Title, how disasterous was that??!!?? Geez if thats considered a "total disaster" then f#@kin' keep the disasters occurring in Stillwater!!!

Why does it even matter whether or not German wins the 1500 again? The reason he won it last year is not because he's a miler, it was because he's a f***ing talent. He will be in the 5k this year, where he belongs.

Yeah, he could obviously be a miler if he wants to be, seeing how he's already done this by winning the NCAA 1500 title. To compare him to guys like Centrowtiz and Wheating though, is ridiculous. Those guys' specialty really IS middle distance. The reason German can compete with them is because he is a f***ing talent. What ever he ends up running in the mile (even if it contends with those two) will be NOTHING to what he will be able to do in the 5k.

So in my opinion, it doesn't really matter whether or not he defends his 1500 title. German can be good in the mile, but he can be GREAT in the 5k. That's why it's pointless to criticize him about his mile-running ability.

I never contested that you can be good in more than one event, by the way.

Fernandez is the most accomplished runner ever to come out of high school. He ran great times as a freshman with a major improvement in the mile. Why do people think he wouldn't progress? I know injuries could hold him back, but if he stay healthy between now and June, he could potentially win the 1500 or 5000 at NCAAs.

The kids like 19 years old, cut him some slack. He is injury prone and it seems like Smith is trying to ride the fine line between training hard and avoiding long term injuries and he is doing a good job. German is also still learning to race different distances and has been successful from the 1500 to 5000.

He does have talent. He should progress. He won the NCAA 1500 last June. He was healthy, no other races since then. Plenty of time for training and taking good care of himself.

He ran like a struggling 10th grader in high school, not college. There were no reports of any injury. Is something wrong? And was it caused by Smith/OSU? We shall see.

I think you're missing the basics of athletic development. You don't take an 8:34/4:00 guy out of high school and specialize him in the mile. You take a 4:00/1:49 guy and do it.

So if Centro was injured last summer and might be injured now, and if Wheating was injured and might never run again, was this caused by Lananna and Oregon then, I guess we shall see??!!??....
