I just read this post and I have to say that the Voice of Reason is right on, but I am really blown away by the responses (a lot of you guys are so arrogant it's sick). You're judging him because you don't know who he is, therefore he lacks credentials and can't possibly be right. Personally, I could care who it is. It's his or her's right to post and remain anonymous as is those who are saying expose him. Why don't you expose yourself? I look at what the post said, not who said it.
He's pretty much on fact with everything but Jankowski's 5k and 10k times, but they weren't updated on the site. And even if he improves 34 more seconds in 2 years, then what? Rupp is a shoe in and so is German if he decides to go for the 10. Yes, in 2 years he's still going to be improving while others are idling in place. Who thinks Jankowski is going to get that 3rd spot? What about Nelson (27:36?), Abdi, Jorge, Fam, Moran, Fasil, Carney, Bauhs, perhaps Meb or even Browne, etc......and a host of others. If he's about a minute behind these guys now, where will he be in less than 3 years? Lest not forget, many of the guys I listed will be improving also.
To the guy who posted Jankowski's latest times, boasting of his 14:17 twice in a row, so what? If he runs 13:50 for 5k, so what? Do you really think he's going to go 27:40? That would be 13:50 twice. Even if he did, he'd still have trouble making the team.
As far as Kyle O'Brien goes, he's right on that also. If Kyle had ran 2:11 in Boston he'd still be there. If he broke it, why would he leave, that's $$$$$$$$$100k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for a year. So then, he wasn't fast enough, right?
It's because he's been there long enough and hasn't made the next big step because unfortunately, he's not capable of it. I can run well under 3 hours, but I can't break 2:25 because although I do have the desire, I don't have that level of talent. Come on people, get with the program. If he trained with the Hansons that long and couldn't run 2:11, at least, then why is it going to happen now? It's not. Kyle himself can come up with all the reasons he wants, but he knows the truth. He was not getting better in workouts and could not improve his marathon time and yes, it's really that simple. V of R was correct or pretty darn close. Kyle was not ripped apart by V of R, nor did anyone else who posted. A few called him a 2:15 marathoner, well he is isn't he? He just didn't like seeing reality in writing. Please post again Mr. O'Brien and show me the post where someone ripped you apart? We all read facts, no one called you a name or said you s**ked as a runner. I, along with several others runners on my team, just finished reading all 47 posts and couldn't find one. Everyone has an opinion, including those who disagree. It's America folks!
His analogy of Greg Meyer and Dick Beardsley is also correct and I can't be the only one who gets his point. We verified it and it is all factual. Is it just the people with negative responses that post or is it just a few people posting over and over? Yeah, I'm new here, but I will freely admit that. These guys didn't run 2:15 repeatedly for years and years. Greg Meyer ran 2:13 his first time out and then won Boston 2.5 years later in 2:09 flat. Dick Beardsley ran his first marathon in 2:47 in 1977, but 4 years later he broke 2:10 on a solo effort at Grandma's in 1981, with no competition. Kyle O'Brien can't do that with competition, nor has any Hanson runner in 10 years! Dick Beardsley then broke 2:09 at Boston in 82'.
Overall, I agree with the program but you've gotta have the right blend of runners and they have to have the necessary talent. Also, there has to be certain amount of time to get it done. If not, move on.
By the way, to the guy who posted his assumed real email address on the bottom of page one, if this guy is who I think he is, you won't beat him and you'll only end up looking like a fool.
For all of you who criticized this V or R for posting anonymously, you really have to look to yourself first. Putting down a bogus email account with a first name and others pointing to this guy as being anonymous, you are really being hypocritical. My name is D. Cramer and I live in Oakland County Michigan, but quite a ways from Rochester. Oakland County is not small. The owners of this board really have to make this a registered board only. I would have no problem with it. Respond to someone like you were talking to them face to face. If you disagree, use logic and explain it in a polite manner.
