This is exciting to watch. It was nice to be high on the list for so long, but to see such little improvement in 20+ years just isn't right. These gals are pushing each other and showing a lot of guts in their races.
As for those who question the improvements of some, I have to say that there have been some awesome opportunities this year for fast times, and these gals are taking hold of those chances. I wish I had had a pace like Pre and some of the other races when I was at my best.

When people can PR from over 10 seconds in a year over a distance like 1500, dominate the world and finish world class performances without even breathing hard, that might create some suspicion. I don't think Wurte-Thomas could have finished in 4:10 looking that easy.

Curious to know Ruth's thoughts but I think Rowburry has a serious shot a medals at Worlds and I don't think Gold is out of the question. Barringer has more time left in her, when she did it at Pre she could have taken of way earlier.

I don't think you get it at all. Almost everyone has a big breakthrough at some point. Worth-Thomas going from 4:24 to 4:10 over two years in college would be a good example. That seems normal.
It's when those big breakthroughs happen at an advanced age, after years of small or sometimes no progressions (suggesting that the person has nearly reached their potential) that it gets suspicious.
Teg's huge breakthrough came the year after he left the NCAA system. Ulrey is still in college. Barringer has improved by leaps and bounds every year. It's just different.

If you look at her seasons bests on the IAAF site they are all set in America. I don't know for sure but maybe she has not done too many fast European meets previously?
Perhaps also the increased competition with rising standard in US has pushed her on.

age-deterioration in lung capacity/cardiac output only significantly impairs performance in ~ early '30's
this is significantly compensated for/superseded upto then by yearly improving aerobic fitness
she may have spent years 5 pounds overweight but not known this on basic caliper "love handle" measurement
go to any 1/2 decent physiologist & he'll immediately shove the calipers up your ass & do some gold-standard hydrostatic weighing to measure your "true" fat %age ( accounting for weight of calipers shoved up your ass )
i'll post some theoretical improvements with 5 pound loss of blubber for a 4'04 gal next

Maybe that's because Brits hype their athletes up and put a huge amount of pressure on them, squeezing out everything they've got in the early years.
I'm not convinced this guy is a Brit considering his name is "Trollism" but if he is he should know that the farming system for track in the UK is much different that it is in the US as is the development at a younger age. Hell it's different in Canada. It is much more common to see young runners in Canada hit faster marks at younger ages but then in the 23-28 ages even out or fall behind US runners.
