Fam To Go For American 10k Record of 27:13 Tonight

Fam needs to learn to walk before he runs. Not likley he can take that much off his PR in one race. I think a low 27:30's is more likely or a mid/high 27:20's if things fall just right.

Yeah, what's happened to the status of Payton Jordan, formerly the Cardinal Invitational?

I saw Meb set that record, and he got fourth! The lead Kenyan ran 27:04. Kennedy was in that race. The next year, in the same meet, Meb went under 27:20 again. These were two of the best 10Ks I've ever seen.

Abdi ran fast there, Rupp ran 27:33, Webb, Fam, Ritz, Torres, Deena and many others have set PRs at this meet. I have been attending track meets for thirty years, and this meet, in my opinion, has been unrivaled when it comes to epic distance races.

Now, it seems like we're diffusing our talent and working at cross purposes. Any thoughts?

My prediction-Fam 27:11, Rowbury 15:03!

I think for collegiates this still will be a huge meet to aim for and it will get a lot of post collegiates as well. The weather is almost always perfect there and PR's are set like mad as well as various national records over the years. The cal meet will most likely not come up with the high end marks (and certainly not depth) that the Cardinal/Payton Jordan does and people will remember that next year when they make their schedules.

Threatening to break the American record in the 10k is also threatening to break 27. Rupp will do it some day.

No really, it's soft. That's why it stood for only 15 years at 7 seconds slower than the current time and has only stood at it's current time for 8 years. It's obviously soft...I mean sheesh, it's been lowered by 7 whole seconds in 22 years!

It will show sone balls if he is on pace at 8k. It doesn't mean anything to be on pace at 5k and then fade and it means even less to talk about it.

I think the guy meant soft as compared to the sub 13 American 5k record, which would be a fair observation.

A sub 13 5k is worth a sub 27 10k, wouldn't you reckon?

ask bob kennedy about that. we certainly have far more guys in recent history running around 13:10 than even 27:20. rupp may be one of the best guys we have as a 5K & 10K guy (though he appeared to be more of a 10K guy until recently) and he is likely approaching 27:0X & 13:0X at the same time. who nobody else has done that in US history, meb being the closest.

Are you kidding?!?! Didn't you see the article about NBC, ABC, CBS, ESPN, and VH-1 bidding for the rights to broadcast the race in prime time? I think the home shopping network won--try them.

If Anyone thinks Fam can break the American record in the 10K not only are they just stupid, they have no knowledge of racing a 10K.

Fam 27:39 not even close went out at 66 which isn't good enough. If you talk big produce results.
