My son (age 9) recently ran 2:41 for 800. His longest race is 1000m which was in 3:24. I believe with a bit more training he can run under 6 for the mile.
From this year's Oregon Twilight Meet:
Boys 1 Mile Run Mid School
1, John Paden, Sunrise, 4:41.36
My two cents: Rob Myers ran 4:44 as a 12 year old.
my lil brother is a sprinter in middle school. I had gone to his district meet and in the 8th grade boys 1600m 4 guys ran under 5min out of 17 runners. If i remember correctly the top 8 were:
4:55
4:56
4:56
4:59
5:02
5:12
5:15
5:21
it was a fast race indeed. They went out insanely fast for middle school kids. i think it was like 2:20 for the opening 800m an daround 67 for the first lap.
I think Paul Thomas may have busted 5' as an 11 year old.
Ryan Hayden ran a 9:21 (3000) as a seventh grader (just about 5min pace)
A guy I used to train with ran a 2:01 800 as a seventh grader also.
all i can say is, james hatch! look it up!
I RAN 4:13 FOR A MILE AS A 11 YEAR OLD I TIMED IT ZOMG ZOMG ROFLCOPTER!!!oneone111!!eleven
