I absolutely adore when people walk into a Taco Bell and automatically become experts on Mexican culture and the Mexican-American experience. I know you don't mean any harm but please realize you are speaking out of your blowhole when you suggest that you have to drop your Mexican identity to make it in America. My dad came to this country as an adult and worked in a factory till he retired. My older brother is a doctor and yet isn't any less immersed in Mexican culture than my dad. In fact, his 3-year old son's first language is Spanish.
Perhaps I am mistakingly assuming you are not of Mexican descent. Regardless, it is in your best interest to realize that being "accepted in the professional world" these days has little to do with dissing one culture for another and more to do with the skill set you bring to the table. I have worked as an architect for twenty years. A profession in which 95% of the workforce tends to be the the Avant-garde metro set. Yet I have fit in because I know how to apply my skills towards keeping a firm in business. All while sporting a cool mustache and occasionally wearing flannel to the office.
