It all depends on how you want to do the active recovery. Renato said himself how suprised he was by the results.

I know that the bulk of Geb's running is 6-6:15/mi, with his longrun at 5:40/mi and his 15-30km hard runs around 4:40 or so. So running a lot at 6min/mi for him is more than appropriate. It does make me laugh though when I hear guys who aren't under 15min telling me how they did an easy 10 in 60min.

BTW -- one guy posted on here that he had run with the national team for a few weeks in 2001, and that 4mi in 30min was not uncommon when running an easy run with Haile.

anyone had any experience training like frank shorter?

Frank Shorter was amazing.

But what happened after the 76 olympics ? He was only 28/29 years and he more or less disappeared. He never went on to break 2-10 or to be a major factor in any other big races.

Did he focus on his law career after that point ?

Also he had the beginning of injury issues, plus was among those fighting TAC on the 'shamateurism' issue. He testified before Congress around then as well on behalf of Olympians who needed money to train full time.

Post-76 Shorter was realizing he had a foot issue (sort of like Rupp, who knew he had something that would need to be addressed surgically). He worked on his business, had surgery after Boston 78 when it became clear it was time, then ABSOLUTELY, LIKE RODGERS, WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE 1980 TEAM had we not boycotted.

With the boycott, and knowing LA was too far off, he simply turned it down some and beat up on everyone when he felt like it.

Yes, but it takes years of running to be able to do as he did.

Until you have that experience the tempo runs are aerobic, not tempo.
