Eventough I have lots of respect to Henry Rono. Pele is way above him, Pele was pro at age 16, most goals ever made by a player, 3 world cup titles. Fist time Pele was world champion he was 17 years old. Please no comparisson.

You're right, there is NO comparison.

If Kenya hadn't boycotted Moscow, Henry would've had his shot at proving he was the Pele of running. As it went, he'll be remembered as the guy who broke four world records in 81 days in a bunch of dual meets. When you think about how much he broke them by, though--10,000m by almost 8 seconds, 5000m by 4.5, steeple by 2.6, and 3000m by an incredible 3 seconds--it's easy to start thinking that Miruts Yifter got lucky. Could he have hung with Rono, whose 10,000m and 5000m PRs were 18 and 6 seconds faster than his?

I watched Rono do a workout in San Clemente, California in 1977 in which he ran 6x a mile in under 4:30 apiece. The catch is that it was in SOFT BEACH SAND. Not by the water, but up where your whole foot gets buried each time you take a step. His lower legs looked like baseball-bat handles with 16-pound shots on top of them. Nice guy, too--he let a crowd of high school kids cool down with him. Samson Kimobwa had just broken the world 10,000m record, and Rono was half-disgusted, half-inspired: he said, "Kimobwa! If he can break it, I can break it again easily." (It isn't bragging if you go out and do it.)

What I find surprising is that (apparently) people rarely make use of the "Report Post" button. I've probably used it a few dozen times over the last couple years and the moderators have very often (not always--sometimes they disagree with me) responded quickly and deleted the offensive post(s). Given that they can't review every new post instantly, all day and all night, it makes sense (to me) to alert them to *specific* posts or threads that are yank-worthy.

Several of my own posts and threads have been deleted, and upon reflection I think most of them should have been. Again, using the "Report Post" function would probably have made that happen earlier.

One time-saving tip: Where the "Report Post" page asks for my name, I just type in the action I'm asking for instead, something like "Pls delete thread--NRR." After all, I'm not really looking for an email back from the mods--just want the post(s) to go...
