Being from a part of the midwest that gets its fair share of snow, I always think its funny when places like Seattle have to deal with it. Refusing to use salt because of the effect it's once in a blue moon use might have on a body of salt water? I hope the idiot that decided that was a good idea slides his Prius into a tree.

and THIS, my friend, is the difference between red state people and blue state people. maybe we can see that a little inconvenience on our part is worth it if it helps preserve the physical beauty that we are truly blessed to have in this part of the world. you can keep your chemical-ridden corn fields, boring flat praries and hideous wind chills. and politics.
During my recent work trip there, my most memorable run was the evening of the 1st big snow Thursday the 18th. Ran north on the Waterfront Trail & back. Fantastic...and conditions felt quite comfortable (better than most of that wind & rain that sweeps in from Puget Sound).
Of course, getting over to the Waterfront Trail was a tad hairy. Anywhere flat is usually decent for running in snow.
You mean blue states like New York and Massachusetts? Even those rather liberal places realize that effectively dealing with icy roads can save the lives of people, even if it kills a couple fish.
All of our run-off to storm drains is sent through water treatment plants before it hits Puget Sound. Obviously some of the salt would make it's way down, but much of it would be processed out.
Oh well... it's all slushing up now...
Still below freezing (and snowing pretty hard @ 11:30) north of the lake. No idea what I'll be doing for runs in the next few days. It's going to take a long time for our 18+ inches to melt away.
Geez, more snow today - over a foot on the ground now. I thought it was supposed to rain.
Nice timing for this thread; I'll be moving to Fort Lewis in about 3 weeks.
Army? I hope you like rain and darkness.
Central MN (not sure about anywhere else) had about a half inch of rain (yes it got warm enough to rain) and then froze over. the roads have been hell. some roads still haven't been sanded and you see cars slide everywhere. Not a good day for running,
What would you rather have?
Rain
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go ......
