C'mon greenliner and other Illinois folk--are we basing this solely on time? Think about who DOMINATED during their years.
1)Virgin (two sub 14:00s; destroyed everyone when ran 13:50)
2)Graves (sub 14:00; 14:18 as soph; 2X champion)
3)Torres (2-1-1-1)14:00
4)Derrick(*course record); longer course--20 sec victory
5)Broe (absolutely DOMINTATED--no one ever challenged him)
6)Sage (too bad he was Torres' bridesmaid for so long)14:03
7)Spivey (14:00 for 2nd---2nd to Graves twice)
8)Maddux (Blew everyone away in small school race; 2X A champ)
9)Merrick(dominant before Virgin)
10)Sitko (Made people believe Virgin's record could go down)
Jager and recent studs do not belong on the list with these guys.
I put Broe so far up because no one could touch him. He ran 14:22 as a junior, and his senior year the course was a mud pit (only 4 or 5 guys broke 15 that day). Troy Maddux dominated the small schools in the 80's--four top ten finishes at the XC state meet. He won the state meet by 22 seconds as a junior, and 29 seconds as a senior. His time his senior year (14:18) would have easily beat the large school field!
