didn't he make it and get kicked out?

I think I remember Tim Broe skipping the Mandatory dinner that the race officials put on. They made an example of him and sent him home before the race. What a bunch of pricks.
I work with teenagers and I would never do that to a kid. That's kinda what I was alluding to when I mentioned that not many adults supervised anything in the old AAU days. I think we jumped on the bed in the motel until it broke. Also, the drinking age in Kansas in those years was 18, so I helped myself to my first beer.
patrick smyth from notre dame.
Ryan Shay - NCAA 10k Champion and National Marathon Champion...alway just happened to have a shitty day at FL regional in Racine, WI
James Carney never qualified for the Pennsylvania State XC Championship meet....let alone ever having FL on his mind. he never placed in the top 10 of his district (PA District 7....aka WPIAL) in XC.
he's now a 27:30 10k runner. pretty insane. he somehow made meteoric rise at Millersville of all places.
i still shake my head in wonder at where the hell he came from.
Did Carney run in college?

So that means he doesn't meet the basic criteria to be mentioned in this thread.
The story on Broe as told here: http://www.letsrun.com/interviews/TBroeHS.htm
LetsrunIt's true. My junior year, I got expelled. I'm sorry though as I don't have a great story. I don't know where people came up with all of those wild stories. Basically, they had all sorts of official functions that you were supposed to go to. On the Friday night before the race, they had an evening dinner and I didn't feel like going. I had a friend in town with me so we went out to grab a pizza and a movie. I didn't think they would even notice. When I got back, they were really, really pissed with me. They told me they had to make an example of somebody.
I got sent home the next morning and didn't even get to watch the meet. They wouldn't even let me go back into my hotel room - I had to sleep on a couch. I'm sorry I don't have any cool stories for you. I didn't go to Mexico to buy drugs or anything which I'm sure you've heard.
The thing that sucked about the whole thing was that the movie was terrible. That what was most disappointing. It was "A Dangerous World" - I think - with Kevin Costner.
My senior year, though, I went back and got 10th even though I was sick as a dog.

If you think this then you failed to notice Julia Stamps's junior AND senior year at FL.
I don't know what happened to Stamp, but i highly doubt it is even remotely as big a screw up as what Flanagan did. FL's is where you're supposed to put it all on the line. Flanagan was CRUSHING everyone in her regional meet, a meet that is used for qualifying for fl nats. To be ahead by that much and collasp in a qualifying race is about a nightmare occurance as there can be. If you go all out at Nats and bomb, at least you were in the race where it counts.
What did happen to Stamp?
bernard lagat
Stamps at Footlocker (as I recall from TV):
1994 as a soph: destroyed the field.
1995 as a junior: fairly big lead midway through race, got woozy and passed out. Something about being sick during the week and dehydration, I think.
1996 as a senior: fairly big lead late in the race. The last 10 yards of the course is the Footlocker logo, so they had to cross the logo to finish. She is leading but fading. A few other girls are closing fast. Stamps collapses, partly on the Footlocker logo, so about 10 yards before the finish. At least one of the chasers has to jump over her to get to the finish.
Strange things happen to her.
Well her running style led her to a high power job in NYC and handing it out in local road races check out interviews at fastwomen.com if it is still up. She just got burnt as I recall and started running again to keep sanity and found she still has, did have, some wheels.
Flanagan, well who really cares what you do in H.S. she made it to the big dance. If we were judged by only one performance, then yes we should hang that around her neck, but thankfully she has run most of our asses into the ground with her "screw up" style of racing. She is not cut from the same cloth as Julia Stamps, or anyone in this era you need to go back to Joan or Mary to see someone as complete of a runner at all levels.

I'm not positive on this but did Kara Grgas-Wheeler aka Kara Goucher make it to FL Nationals?
Kara made it twice with a best of 9th as a soph.

All the results from all of the years of Kinney and Footlocker finals are posted on the web, you can go and check your idiot guesses if you aren't certain BEFORE you dump them onto this thread!
