ok, mens 1500m PICK EM

As soon as I woke up this morning all I could hear in my head was the beginning to "we will rock you" by queen. Webb is gonna kill some people today.

Je ne vois pas comment Lagat ne ferait pas partie de cette sélection ?

A 34 ans, il est au top du top et sa morphologie de félin va le propulser en tête dans les derniers 100 mêtres de la course.

Quand Webb prend sa grande foulée si impressionnante, il est irrésistible !

Pour le troisième participant au jeux de Pekin, je choisi Gabe Jennings qui a fait ce qu'il a voulu en quart et en demi-finale.

Une facilité incroyable avec un visage pas du tout marqué.

Je crois qu'il s'est entrainé comme jamais pour ce championnat et même il y a quelques temps, il n'était pas au top, il faisait presque jeux égal avec Lagat.

A 29 ans pour Jennings c'est le moment ou jamais en 1500 m avant de peut-être faire une carrière en 5000 m.

No way this guy loses. He's not just worried about qualifying, he's gonna sit in 3rd-5th for the first 1300 and then prove to the field that he's just better than they will ever be, kicking home for a win of about a second.

2. Lamong

There's a chance he'll go to the lead too early, but I think he'll race smart learning a lesson from the 800 and close well passing a couple in the last 80 to make the team.

3. Webb

I think he takes command early because he hates running from the back. He'll be in front with 400 to go but won't have the speed to run with Lagat and Lamong. His early pace work will have given him enough of a gap to hang on. That or he finishes 8 seconds back because he's a headcase. In that event, I like Leo to make it

Could I do research on how each successive post/prediction of the finish affects how the next poster predicts? Single subject design in which X reads A, processes the new stimuli, and predicts B based on the output of the processed stimuli rather than an uninfluenced objective prediction. Just thinking and studying as I read this thread:)

I do however think the OP may be onto something. The race will certainly unfold quickly.

I predict (as the times indicate) it to be very close between Lukezic, Manzano & Jennings. Jennings will be a co-leader with Lagat with 200M to go (like 2006). Lomong hasn't looked as good as I thought he would in the prelims. Just a hunch with him. Doesn't he have a tight hamstring, as well?? I haven't really watched Sherer, but he's apparently been very impressive.

In Webb's case I believe you're correct. He needs a race run at a strong pace. Lagat can probably win and almost certainly finish top 3 off any pace.

that would be the worst possible team we could send.

It's ahrd to take anyone serious who thinks they can predict a 1500 meter time down to the hundreths of a second.

I think Webb and Lagat will break clear of the rest, with Webb edging Lagat. So I'm betting this will be a giant "eff-you" race by Webb to all the doubters, whereas Lagat is content to just qualify, knowing his real races are in Beijing.

For the third spot, I'm not drinking the Lomong kool-aid. He's a young guy, and I think all the rounds in the 800, plus the first two of the 1500, combined with his (relative) inexperience at this level leave him back in the pack. Manzano's a stud, but I somehow don't see him in that third spot either -- it's been a long season for him. Jennings will definitely make the race interesting, but I don't think he's got that last gear yet.

So for third, I'll go with Myers edging a group of guys, maybe including Lomong, Manzano, Sherer, and Jennings.

But I could be totally wrong, and that's actually part of the fun -- gotta run the race and see what happens, everyone has a shot. I'm really just rooting for a good race, even if that makes me look like an idiot with these predictions.
