This is what you need to do:
He is up for re-election of the Men's Track and Field Committee at the Annual Meeting in December.
Only members of the Committee may vote.
Go on the usatf website - find the committee list and email the members.
Remeber that Chaplin works very hard buying votes!!!
That's utterly useless or did you miss the part about internal cronyism? Or we all have to pay a thousand dollars to travel to some convention so we can vote Chaplin out? The USATF members keep reelecting oneanother over and over.
The USOC/media avenue is a good suggestion. Good luck to Scott Douglas.

you're absolutely correct that it's utterly useless. And before you shell out the grand to travel to the convention, make sure you read the part of old-dirtbag's post where he says that only members of the committee may vote. However far you travel to the convention, you don't get to vote because you are not a member of the committee. The Men's T and F committee chair is not directly elected by the USATF members.
USOC is the only immediate way to stop the madness. It is a self-perpetuating, incestuous election process.

Here is the deal. You have to have someone run against Chaplin.
Qualifications
1. Probably need to be a big name and not just a USATF slappy.
2. Successful coach
3. Well connected
4. Willing to be black balled from the sport if you lose.
Good Luck finding anyone.

This is why it's so great Scott Douglas is going to be writing a damning piece in Running Times about John Chaplin and this rigged system. It's also wonderful news that the USOC is seriously considering decertification of USATF. A very enlightening article to kick start this thread too! USATF won't be secure for too long. NIKE will distance itself from USATF if it gets too hot in the kitchen.
We'll see if Douglas' article has any named sources. I don't want to see a five thousand word feature of innuendo and speculation. If Chaplin is really as bad as some of you say, then there should be a never-ending stream of coaches and athletes willing to speak out against him. But aside from a couple of angry threads on Letsrun every four years, no action is ever taken. Feel free to blame the Nike conspiracy if you want, but 95% of those in the USATF (athletes included) seem to be just fine with how things are. Time will tell...

Wow. I wish I had heard of all this two weeks ago.
I was #26 for a field of 24. #25 told me that he was not running. One more spot, and I get my shot.
There were a number of runners whose times were from '07, including two who had not even touched the track this season. (I hit my time two weeks earlier, having gotten a very late start, and had only one race before that.)
Someone advised that I try an appeal to get the field size expanded.
Interestingly, the phone number for appeals had been taken off the site, despite that it was still four days before the first round of my event. Made calls, and calls, and calls,... couldn't get John Chaplin directly, but was given the message from him not to bother appealing because it would be a waste of my money. The field size would not be expanded. End of story. I got Butler'd... told not to appeal so later if I raised issue USATF could claim that I didn't follow the appropriate channels.
23 guys went to the starting line.
No doubt there is a difference between myself and Goucher, and he could have been considered a contender for the team while I wouldn't. I still can't help feeling cheated though. I hope USATF gets gutted.
It wouldn't be very damning if there weren't sources. Seems like some potential good ones on this thread. If runners and coaches are too afraid to face off bad eggs like John Chaplin then they deserve to continue fellating NIKE and USATF for peanuts.
If integrity matters and this is the status quo they choose to abide by, then they shouldn't be in leadership roles in this sport.

If you read the thread you'll see that I am doing a lot to help the right people look into USATF: Starting with writing a (past tense) expose on this, expressing a willingness to stand up to John Chaplin via petition or other means, as well as getting very relevant information and contacts to to Scott Douglas and Jon Little. Not everything that has transpired is being posted.
That also means I am willing to testify to what I know in court.

I was looking for this thread. It shows USATF's pattern of dirty players for years ago. This starts with a very revealing write-up on John Chaplin and Shannon Butler + the USATF lawsuit of 1996 that got swept under the rug pre-Internet.
I see the problems .Does anyone remember new orleans 98.It was the 1500 .There was a local funny man.Who the week before ran a 3:30 800.Any way he got someone to call in and say he was a meet director and this guy had run 3:37 1500 and could you let him into the meet.He got lane 1.The fast heat next to kennedy and a few other greats.The 400 was in 60 he was 60 meters back .Did not make it to the 400 ran for the exit .Later the paper said imposter in 1500.The guy had on long shorts and high socks.They tried to have in put in jail but the police said you let him in we cant do anything.This is not a joke and anyone there in 98 can tell you .

Chaplin the bully , he should have been banned from the sport years ago.

There is no way Kara should be allowed into the National meet without a qualifier.
Chaplin's "argument" has always been that those people who are back in 30th-20th position of entries won't make the team so who cares.
But as long as you have an A and a B standard, these people are expected to buy plane tickets and just wait on standyby until 48 hours before.
Why not just have one standard and you have to hit it?
I don;t doubt Kara would place higher than most in the field, but it would indeed be (even in small part), that she didn't HAVE TO go race a qualifier beforehand.
