Kudzurunner, your pompous attitude doesn't make any sense. Why? You are a low, overweight weekend warrior--like me, true, but I'm not overweight and I don't make grotesque comments about "the hunger to run" on letsrun.

I don't know why this is such a big deal. If he can run under 1 hour for a half marathon, who cares whether or not he uses an i-pod in training? Getting the running in either way, right?

I generally don't run with an iPod. I don't run with one because I "think I'm more serious" or to try and be "hard", I just don't find myself wanting or needing music when I run. Which is very opposite from the rest of my life when I'm usually plugged in all the time - I'm a huge fan of music, go to shows almost every week and have a pretty decent (imo) music collection.

If I ever do run with music it's usually pretty lo-key downtempo stuff like beirut, morcheeba, boards of canada, devendra banhart etc.

If you dumbass fags did 15mile tempo runs and the volume he does I'm sure you would eventually find that listening to music while you run passes the time a bit faster now and then. Also he tapes that shit to his body instead of using the gay arm pod holder thing which makes it more bad ass. Plus he's Ryan Freaking Hall he does what he wants and eats babies.

I think the word he's looking for is cogent, but I don't know what he's trying to argue. If he wanted a cognizant argument from someone, the argument itself would have to be self-aware, which is pretty unlikely even for a Jesus freak.

Now professional athletes have been known, on occasion of course, in the past to endorse products as a way to get by and make a little extra cash...Now most guy runners with big balls do not run with an ipod, usually because they have a team or a training partner to run with.

anyways heres a thought...what if hall got an endorsement for it, now i know hes sponsored by asics for running, but who sponsors his listening...Mac of course

I think a lot of runners have got the idea that "real runners" don't listen to music. Of course that is not true and this video is perfect evidence. However, I do believe that "runners" don't NEED music. I seriously doubt that Ryan Hall uses an Ipod to help him get through his long runs and I doubt that he has ever worn one in a serious workout, such as a 15 mile tempo. Doing a workout like that as fast as he is doing it requires intense focus and he wouldn't want to be distracted by the songs or the player. If you are as good as Ryan Hall you are motivated enough by the love of running to do all the miles. The guy just happens to like music so he listens to it sometimes. Fine with me.
