so apparently everyone on letsrun is rich. that should be the title of this thread. i just got a job that will probably pay about 29-30k and i'm real happy cuz i should be able to save well over 500 bucks a month which seems awesome.
i guess i pays (a freakin' ton!) to actually know what you want to do with your career.
Well, I would guess that only people that make decent money replied (for the most part).
This thread is totally depressing. My salary has barely gone up in the last 8-9 years. Really sucks. And my total income is way down because I used to consult on the side.
In the meantime, my expenses are through the roof, house, dog, 3 kids, nanny, property taxes. Made more money 10 years ago when I rented for less 1/3rd my mortgage, no kids.
Not to mention I'm driving the same car I bought new 12 years ago.
2003 - 48k
now - 95 + 80 bonus = 175k
top bank.
Im a 4th year at UC Riverside, Psychology Law and Society Major.
I've been in Real Estate for about 3 years. I pretty much nothing my first year...maybe 15k.
Three months ago, I hooked up with a company that was mass purchasing and reselling upscale condos in Florida. In three months I did 54 Home Loans. I made about 350k.
Sad part is the company went under a month ago.... = /
really ironic though.
Now I am "retired" until after I finish law school.
I'm not rich yet, and it's not a given that I will be in a few years, but I ran well and worked hard in high school, and got into a great college. I stopped running in college, but I worked hard there and now have a job at a top firm. Yes, I'm making more money than I feel like I am worth (I have a liberal arts degree in economics), but if someone thinks I'm worth this right now, I'll take it. In my first year of work I am making almost twice as much as my dad makes. I can't wait to pay my parents back for what they paid for my college, I can only hope they splurge for once in their life. Either way, don't resent the people that are making good starting salaries, for the most part we are smart and hardworking.
Good luck though, hard work always gets appreciated, even if not in the short run.

Graduate in the spring, start at a top tier consulting firm in the summer.

SHALL WE START LEAKING PRIVATE INFORMATION?
summer 07:
option a--vice pres of a hot rod shop in so-cal, 60K + Bonuses, with the option to buy the company in 10 years. 50-60 hours/ week.
option b--head xc coach at a university, 20k. 40+ hours/ week.
went with option b. no regrets.
money isn't everything folks. i seriously had fame and fortune at my fingertips, but turned it down. coaching is so rewarding, and it allows me to run.
OK kiril whats up?
i dont get it. have fun nonner.
Starting Salary 36K as medical intern in 2003
2007: 10X more money as ICU doc but still working hard...
I'm gonna slow down and work a lot less for a little less money.. I agree, money is not everything.

i will save you the embarrassment of having your name googled - it's enough that we ridicule your times on the team

I make 70K and I am a systems analyst.
Systems Managers should be making at least $90K.
In most areas of the country I would agree with that. Are you in Peoria, IL or something? If not, ask for a big raise or go find another job.

Welcome to letsrun, where all posters make 6 figures, work 90 hours a week, run 100 miles per week, and whatever your PRs are, theirs are faster.

Running isn't everything either dipshit. That running isn't going to get you anything when your wife wants to go on a vacation or you kid wants to go to something better than a community college.

Not everyone brother. I'm 41, and I didn't start making anywhere close to decent money until I was about 35. Work hard. Work smart. Be patient. Make a plan for what you want to do. Not sure how old you are, but I'm assuming under 30.
Hopefully you're going to be smart with that $500 a month you can save.
Math time.
$500 a month is $6,000 a year.
Invested in good growth stock mutual funds that produce ONLY 9% annual return from age 25 to age 65 will result in a retirement nest egg of $2,209,751.19. Keep that invested and take 5% a year from it, and you'll have an income of $110,487.55 a year the first year and then more each year assuming your investment continues to grow more than 5% (and if properly invested it should).
You want to stop working at 60 instead of 65 and that $500 a month turns into $1,410,748.33. 5% of that a year is $70,537.41. If you manage to own your house outright and are debt free, even 35 years from now $70,537.41 will keep you out of the poor house. Besides, just two years later you can get early Social Security (if you're a US Citizen) which in future dollars will put your income over $100,000. If you don't think that's enough, then as your income increases, put more into your retirement accounts each year.
You don't have to make a huge salary to retire a multimillionaire.
I graduated college 2 1/2 years ago and started at 29k at a shit job. Still at the shit job making 34k. Plan on moving and finding a new job in 2 months. Not sure what I want to do. I work in in customer service and I hate it, plus no real movement up.
Not sure what everyone else does to get these salaries? Grad school?

No grad school for me, but I got a CPA. I think you need a grad degree or professional certification in order to start climbing.
A word of advice to new college grads in their early to mid 20s --work your a$$ off the first 10 to 15 years. Make all the sacrifices you can. Relocate, travel, work OT, whatever it takes. Look at the long-term picture. By the time you're 40 you should be hitting your full stride, career-wise. Live conservatively, save and invest like crazy, and you'll be sitting very pretty before age 50, still young enough to enjoy it all.
These salaries are dream numbers like the pr's people post on here.
graduated in 2005.
filmed a commercial for BP - ran for 2 years. earned $15k
worked part time during that time at a law office
first real job this summer with Careerbuilder starting $30k but I'm on pace for $55k first year
