Just so you know, and this is supposed to be informative, rather than critical, $65K is quite a low salary by the standards of the Bay Area. Unless your salary ramps up considerably, you will never be able to buy something "nice," not even on a combined income of $100K.
If it gets you out here, great, but in a few years, plan on changing jobs to something that pays a lot better. To put it another way, it's too early to be planning ahead till the day your daughter goes to school - your situation will have changed by then.

In the Bay Area, to be middle class, you really need to be rich. To buy a house in a reasonable area, I'd guess you need a household income of at least $250K-300K. Unless, possibly, you are willing to endure a very long commute.
Also, if you are black - I am not, but neither am I white - be aware that the Bay Area is quite ghettoized by race. Many of the "nice" parts of the East Bay are -very- white. I went to a party yesterday, in the heart of Oakland, where there must have been 40 white people, two sorta Asian looking people, and me. Right outside, every single person walking down the street was black.
