Man need hair to keep woman warm in bed. Must be the same reason for them other fellows. The thicker and darker appears so because of less sun exposure and the taper tip of the hair has been cut to a larger cross section. Most men shave their legs not because the get deep tissue massage, but because they are vain self absorbed pricks. I would say the the massage reason is correct and the real reason the 'pros' do it.

I raced for many years (until my kids were born), and the main reasons bike racers shave their legs are....

All this talk of hygiene and making road rash easier to clean is a load of BS. How many cyclists shave their arms? Not many. In a crash you're also likely to get road rash on your arms. Except for track racers, cyclists tend to have scrawny little arms (like runners do), so they're not going to want to emphasize them.

I've crashed on warmer days in the late winter, before race season and before I'd gotten around to my spring shave, and it made little difference in cleaning the cuts.

I've also had massages with and without hair, and the difference is vastly overstated by those who shave their legs. Every massage therapist I've spoken to has told me the same thing.

A runner will shave thier legs for the same reasons

Maybe the question is how much they'd be affected by road rash on their legs (which are constantly moving) versus their arms (which move very little relative to their legs).

You wouldn't want a hair-encrusted scab down the side of your knee when biking, but might not notice one as much down the side of your elbow.

who cares if runners shave their legs? if it makes them feel faster which in turn is a mental bonus then i would say its worth it. leg hair is disgusting anyways. and personally, i havent talked to a single girl that didnt like the fact that guy runners shave their legs. they all seem to like it.

I absolutely hate it when my boyfriends legs are shaved. I don't wanna be sleeping next to him and have his legs be softer than mine. Would you like it if your girlfriend did the opposite and NEVER shaved her legs. No you would not! So stop it guys. Until you have proven facts that shaving your legs will knock seconds off your time, there is no reason for you to do it.
