the idea behind christmas is that on that specific day something important happened. Do you get upset when you get presents the 24th or 26th?
why should someone take heat for trying to get someone something RIGHT on valentine's day, when they get it there the next day or day before? People are too strung out on the whole thing and freak out when something doesn't happen exactly when it should.
I was in the same situation twice.
First time ordered flowers 3 days in advance...arrived 2 days late.
Second time ordered flowers week and a half in advance....arrived 3 days late.

thats what i was getting at - showing the importance of the one day. that is why i was referring to it as similar to Christmas as an important day. People always downplay the importance of Valentine's Day, while it doesn't hold the "historical significance" of other days it has a reason and a very specific one at that. So when someone refers to it as 'just another day, why don't we do special stuff for our loved ones everyday' they either don't have someone special to spend it with or are too cheap to spend a little extra on a given day...

I sent flowers to my GF on the 13th...the day before through 1-800-flowers. No problem with delivery. Once I sent her flowers on the 14th through a regular florist. She left work at 4:00 and they arrived at 4:30. I was pissed. So next time send them a day early and just say you wanted her to have them an extra day to enjoy. My GF has no problem getting them a day early.
And if you don't do anything because you think it's commercialized, etc. you're a cheap SOB. You don't have to blow the bank account. Get a card, buy a bouquet at the grocery store, whatever. But make an effort. How would you like it if she blew off your birthday because "it's just another day..."

I too got burned by 1800flowers a couple years back. Man that company sucks. BOYCOTT!!!
( and yesterday I got burned by some other douchebags, "floral alliance" or some such shit. Normally I don't bother with these megacompanies, but the problem is, yesterday I was without a car, and when you try and google local flower shops, in order to cut out the over-priced mega-company middle-man, they've built their websites so that if your search "Springfield, XX" for flowers, their company WILL come up. They will have partnered with some florist in the general vicinity of your town, but likely not actually in it. So often if you try and find an actual local florist, you will be sent to their mega-site, where they claim they are THE "east bumfukc" florist. It's BS, the basically program every freaking town in the world into their site's keyword searchs and you will be sent to them even if you are trying to find an actual local florist. I know, I know, use the yellow pages. I've learned. It still pisses me off though. )

"no flowers" is what you get for using such a ridiculous service. take some extra time out of your day and pick them out/up yourself unless you want to risk not getting anything.
I've had good luck with ProFlowers.
But I would second the suggestion someone else made just to use a local florist. Even if you need flowers delivered to another city, just Google around to find a good florist in that city and call them. That way you're pretty much guaranteed they'll arrive on time, plus you're supporting a small independent business.

I just wanted to come back to say that it is 3:15 the day after Valentines Day and my wife still has not gotten the flowers, and I still have not heard from the 1800Flowers company.
I think a few people misunderstood why I was a little upset about them coming the day after....
The reason it makes me angry is that they CHARGE like twice the amount on Valentines Day, so obviously it matters if it is delivered that day.
In the future, maybe my wife and I will celebrate on the 12th or 13th, but the fact of the matter is that this time I ordered for the 14th, was charged the 14th price, and still have not seen the order or heard from anyone.
I am not as mad about it today, I imagine I'll get my money back at some point, but last night I was pretty irate.

This happened to me last year w/ 1-800-flora's - they were 2 days late, i kept trying to cancel my order, i told my wife to refuse delivery, but my father in law happened to be over, answered the door, and took a box of organic sh_t from them. lesson learned. 1-800 flwrs is the worst. never again.
1800 flowers and others are just a ripoff - you're just paying a bunch of intermediate people big $ to pass your message on to some florist. find a florist who is local to the person you are sending flowers to, call them directly (or use their website if they have one), save at least 50% and get way better service.
this is especially true if you are dealing w international.
All 1-800 flowers does it go online and find a local florist by the house and ask them to do it for you and they take some commission(that is my understanding). Go online and find a florist and call directly through them.
Do not rely on the company - they are experts at keeping your money. Deal with your credit card people right away. Say that you did not get a service you paid for, or that a payment was fraudulently obtained. Make them stop payment asap.

it's still cheaper to buy them from 1800flowers than a local florist. You must not buy flowers for your wife frequently. Cause if you got to a local flower shop they charge a ton. It's often cheaper to buy them online.
