I practically begged that guy for a fight...pleaded...ahhahaha- no go - Sparks did land an elbow to my temple once way back in '95- rendered me sensless for the next 4 miles. I wasn't looking-- was busy throwing Ikhard into a mile marker on my other side- it was a real cheap shot- a team mate ran up and buried a fist into the guys kidneys- awesome- IU was forced onto their coach Bus after- we were standing outside of our 15 passenger embarrassment ready to roll- oh mna- those were some times. Other than that nothing. Man we hated those guys. I went on to win Intercollegietes outdoors in Terre Haute beating Ikhard in horribly cold NJ-like conditions- had to think that maybe the guy was thinking about that mile-marker- something I now relish as a 200 pound balding gorilla....sweetness.

ISU dudes - still so small time. We used to laugh about how you guys thought Intercollegiates was a big meet, or how you thought running 8:25 was fast. Looks like things haven't changed. I guess I'm still waiting to see you guys do something worthy of national recognition, or at least a bit of respect. You've got a lot of ground to make up.

newsflash: IUs guys are already so good that they do the extra things like treadmill testing and VO2 max gauging to determine how best to improve on their already superior talent. races are won by seconds, so if you can get two seconds from a different training regimen you developed based on analyzing your body science, you're an idiot if you don't.

i remember when you or your brother won some meaningless 1500 against IU's C-squad 10K guys in bloomington and you came in pumping your fist like it was the GD olympics. we all laughed at you because you hadnt even been considered for an invite to the fast heat set to go off about an hour later, where we had five guys run under 347. chapman had a great quote that day, 'the waytons: just another good reason to pity terre haute.'

sure chapman has had his share of wash-out recruits. but he also coached several non-national kids that became all americans and/or made USA worlds teams:

chris powers, all american in XC and track, indiana high schooler

tom burns, all american, steeplechase, indiana high schooler

tom brooks, world championship qualifier in the steeplechase

and plus eric redman, indiana high schooler, ran like 403 in the mile, perhaps chapman's best achievement.

in conclusion, wayton, keep reminiscing about what you never were. IU will remember its trips to ncaa's, its penn relays champs, its ncaa champs, its big ten champs--all of which matter far more than any intercollegiate race. hell, i can't even REMEMBER WHETHER I EVEN RAN those races.

Classy quote from a Collegiate Coach. Waytonk and Chapman seem to have a lot in common. They both have pride, and are both dicks.

For godsake, Wayton, shut the hell up. The only thing more embarrassing than admitting I went to Indiana State is knowing that inferiority-complex-laden dipwads such as you also have an association to the institution.

And you, yourself, must be delusional if you think ISU is worth bragging about. You're probably one of those idiots who got a Sycamore leaf tat. Yeah, that ranks right up there with the Arkansas Razorback.

Let's face it, McNichols has put together a few teams (in both cross country and track) that have been highly competitive in the MVC. At times, they have been very competitive in-state as well. Kudos to him for that. As far as the distance runners go, he has followed a formula of recruiting athletes with the a specific body type and nurturing their won competitive drives. (I suppose that IS one good thing about having a team full of guys who feel inferior about themselves and their teams; they work hard.)

But the lovefest ends there. Has ISU ever done anything of note on a national level? Uh, no. Beyond the odd individual qualifier (Hobbs, Kunz, etc.) Indiana State has done nothing on an elite scale.

So just shut your cake hole. Indiana state is a "good" little team. But ISU is not Wisconsin or Stanford or Colorado or Oregon (even though McNichols likes to think of Terre Haute as the Eugene of the midwest??). And in the grand scheme of things, no matter what you say on this board, Indiana State won't be able to sniff IU's jock.

Get over yourself. Your alma mater stinks as much as the town it's in!

Chapman was good only in getting 2 groups og high school stud classes.

Jeffersons, Haas, and Sullivan who Chap ran out.

Now, Turner, Weatherford, and Hubers.

Went there AND ran there. Certainly wasn't the best guy on the team, but managed to score a few times in the "bigger" meets.

Had fun and made some friends, and was even part of McNichols' first team to win Intercollegiates in T&F. But I don't fool myself into thinking that ISU is some great cross country/track powerhouse. And I DEFINITELY don't delude myself into thinking that ISU is anything more than a crappy educational institution.

Indiana State = Second Rate...all the way.

probably- you were probably in that race- or the charming fellow that screamed "wayton sucks" from behind a tree with a lap to go which spawned the wonderful celebration. Again with the silliness- I never said I was good- I think I stunk- I just like seeing my school run well or play well on the court against IU. Again though- this is silliness- just going to get 20 replies from a bunch of IU guys too scared (at thirty something no less) to put their names behind anything.
