Do NCAA D1 athletes get free shoes?

At UT several years back we got about 3 trainers per semester a pair of flats, cross spikes, track spikes. Some of the better guys on the team though did get some cooler stuff that hadn't been released yet(If you were lucky you could pull off a pair of trainers for the summer too).

Run at a mid major D1 in the south.

we get 3 trainers,

xc spikes, track spikes.

Also...

5-8 cotton T's

6 dri fits, (long and short sleeve)

racing kit,

rain jacket and pants

warm hat

2* training shorts

2* sweats, (tops and bottoms)

have also received socks, visors, baseball caps, gloves, running tights, and various other things in the past.

We get a much better lot of stuff than most other schools I've heard of outside of the "big" conferences.

NAIA and we got all the shoes we wanted. not restricted to brand either.

Does that include water shoes to go with your board shorts? Surfs up!

The rediculesness of "free" stuff to programs outside of the Nike sponsored schools is the reason why your programs are getting cut. Being in the know of administrative issues in college, keeping up with the big dogs on things like this just pisses off your AD. That and going all over the country to meets where you get your butts kicked - is why your team is probably next in line to get cut! At least the football team (as bad as they may be) brings people to campus and admin. can see some return on their money.

You get your pair of flats or two, try to bargain with the coach, if you don't get anything you go buy some.

I actually still run in Adrenalines despite the 9 pairs of Nike trainers. I tried a couple different Nike shoes over the year (structure, Hayward, something else...) but I didn't like any of them and still spring the 90$ every once and a while for a new pair of brooks.

top level schools usually will, but there are a ton of d1 schools who don't get free shoes. most will get a discount of some kind but not neccessarily free shoes.

Our "free" shoes and shirts come out of our team budget from the athletic department. We are not sponsored. We get two shirts and two pairs of shoes. I know of schools that we regularly trounce that have corporate backup. Does anyone know how a team would go about getting sponsored? It would be nice to take our shoe/shirt money and actually travel to a meet more than one state away.

I ran (poorly) at a pretty good D3 (nationals 3 of 4 years) and got shoes as a frosh and soph and a 40% on addidas at a local running store. My junior and senior year I got nothing. My coach even pissed off the addidas rep and we lost our 40%.

I am a minimalist and nike really doesn't have anything except the katana which we can't seem to get but maybe ill complain more. But the thing about a running team is a couple guys usually work at a store so what you do is just get a free pair of 100 dollar nikes in popular size and switch it at store for 80 dollar flats you actually want.

In theory, yes. We're supposed to get free shoes and spikes but @nike @cu where TF are my spikes they were supposed to be here a month ago, we already had a meet. SMH...

First school we were sponsored by asics for three years and nike for the last 2-3trainers 1 spikes 1 Xc flats a year but usually the shoe order would take month to come so you ended up buying your own after a while.

I ran a year at a different school that was sponsored by new balance. They had half of the equipment room deadicated to shoes in all sizes and styles. You just emailed the assistant coach in the morning and he would have them for you by lunch.

I think it varies from school to school. We got 3 pairs of shoes and a pair of spikes per year. Came out of the track budget, but adidas gave us a discount. School in our same conference actually charges a "uniform fee" which has been as high as $400 a year and they didn't even get shoes! Nike school in our conference gives a discount on equipment, but it comes out of their budget as well. Good question for recruits to ask of those coaches desperately seeking your services! The better the school the more gear you get.

My gf went to Duke a few years back. 3-4 pairs of trainers per semester(Usually all Nike Pegasus) Plus spikes and flats. Apparel? You name it, they got it, backpack, jackets, windbreaker, 4 tshirts, 4 long sleeves, sunglasses, hats, shorts, half tights, full tights, pants, etc. And that's per semester.

I went to a D2 and even we got 3 free pairs per semester. But including spikes, so if you needed spikes you could get 2 trainers plus 1 pair of spikes.

3 shoes per year (we pick what type)

2 short sleeve tshirts

1 long sleeve

1 hoodie

1 jacket

2 tights/pants

2 uniform colors

2 pairs of shorts

1 casual short

Book bag

Travel bag
