Your problem is you're seeing things from what you think is a girl's perspective. But girls are not like men, who place a very high priority on looks. Girls are more interested in a guy who is either socially connected or rich. I've known some brutal looking guys who pulled all kinds of ass because they fit one of those categories.
Dude, you got it all wrong, id have to say 90% of it is all based on personality and confidence (unless you are extremely ugly) (and not being a nerdy dork runner). I have had plenty of good looking girls and I am 6 ft and weight under 140.. Just dont be the typical American Runner....which basically is a dork...We all see the kids that join cross country in highschool that also play band etc...... those guys are freakin dorks and distance running is somewhat of an unpopular sport that attracts these dorks... Dorks cannot get girls....some dorks dont look too bad.....but they act like dorks............

My viewpoint might be completely different from the majority of yours. I tend to think that women find men attractive in a variety of different ways. The main reason that the majority of "us messageboarders" tend to think that girls are only attracted to skinny guys is because we are skinny and we all KNOW we can get laid. Of course we've all seen the dramatic effect that the notorious "speed goggles" have on women. They all oogle and awe at are stark, emaciated features of a modern-day concentration camp survivor. PLEASE. Women are just like men. Some dig the muscles that TKE's can put on with or without (usually with) pharmaceutical enchancement. Some women like skinny guys with toned features. But the main thing (that has certainly been mentioned before) is that women look for more of an internal connection (at least any ones worth bringing home to mom). They like men for some of the same reasons that we like them. Some of us men like tits, others ass. Some will take what they can get. Some of us might even like to have a connection with the person that we are talking to. Some of us like skinny chicks or fat chicks. The same goes for women. Some women like skinny guys, others fat. The connection for them is based more on "chemistry" than the 19 inch meat-monster we have in our pants (but that might not hurt your chances...ok it might really hurt her chances). Just deal with it. We don't all get laid. Women like skinny guys, muscular guys, or even fat guys. Their opinions of attractiveness are similar to ours. The end.
i think what it comes down to is approachability, and keeping a girl interested. girls will approach a guy who is more built, bigger, taller, etc., however you want to describe it. but if a guy who is semi-decent looking approaches a girl with the right amount of charm and charisma, he can pull the same amount of ass as his larger adversary, if not more. that's just a mere observation i've had made, especially with living in nyc for quite a few years where i've witnessed some great moments in hook up history.
Don't assume that women want the type of man portrayed in magazine ads. Those spreads are designed by gay men and feature gay men.
Women are more concerned about what your wallet looks like.

This guy is right on the money. I was 5'10 150lbs in my four years of college running and only tagged 2 girls. I've been out of college for a year and have focused on lifting primarily. Now I'm 5'10 173lbs and have tagged four girls in the last year.
I think this article proves that looks aren't everything when it comes to what a woman wants in a man. Although these guys sure are ugly.
I honestly believe that if you are a distance runner you better lift some type of weights if you want the women. Skrawny looking men are not attractive bottom line. Yes there are exceptions to every norm but a man should be toned and ripped at least. This should be easy for distance runners since we already have low body fat. Just lift moderate weights and do a lot of sit ups and the girls will notice and like the look.

Dude, sara hall is hot, and goucher's wife isn't bad either. Also, you named two married guys, so i'm not sure they are too concerned about "landing wimmin." I don't know if Webb has a gf or not, but chances are, I'd find her somewhat "desirable" as well. And it's not just speed goggles.
Maybe this is my own psychological filtering mechanism or whatever, but in general, if a girl can't appreciate my healthy lean frame (...skinny), then to hell with her. I also think that if a girl really truly is averse to skinniness, then there are probably some insecurity issues there and she probably weighs more than I do.
I have the muscles I need to do what I do, and none extra. Just packing on extra muscle for the pure looks of it seems pretty shallow to me, and girls attracted to that muscle are probably pretty shallow as well. What the hell are huge pecs good for anyway, giving really really strong hugs? Whatever, I'll take my skinny bod over your incredibly sexy muscles any day, even if that means not "tagging," "bagging," or "scoring" as many ladies as you.
on a serious note, a lot of runner guys don't dress very well in their normal clothes. If you are slim, make sure you get well-made fitted clothing that shows off your best attributes. Don't wear baggy stuff, or things that are too large in an attempt to make you appear bigger than you are.
All of these success stories about packing on 15 pounds and all of the sudden landing tons of chicks is pretty funny.
I would be willing to bet that the reason you guys get laid more when you are bigger is simply that you have confidence. I seriously doubt that the chicks are hooking up with you because they think you are so much hotter than you used to be. It is simply you thinking you are the man and going after it. Muscle is overrated. Confidence is everything. Some people need muscle to have confidence I suppose while others can be gaunt and pull tons of tail.

Absolutely true. There is a reason baggy stuff is "fashionable" these days...it is to hide flaws, not to accentuate assets. A slim runner should wear form fitting clothes, with the shirt tucked in. Also, a lightly muscled torso looks better than heavily muscled...in my wife's opinion. A runner should do SOME push-ups and chin-ups, but not too excess.
