Read the Ebert review that someone posted earlier. It explains it well.
Here it is again:

"he just showd the wise men of the day / to be nothing more than fools"
I understand the point of the movie--but why is it that he and his crew needed to lie to people to get them on film? Apparently most of the people filmed signed consent to be filmed under false pretenses presented to them by the production staff.
It just seems wrong to me that in order to expose people, you have to lie to them. Who gives a shit that people in rural america hate jews? how many jews do they (or will they ever) interact with? Research has shown time and time again that you can't change peoples prejudices, particuarly the opinions of adults...so really the movie is a complete waste, if it's intent is to help change bias in America (as many critics have pointed out).
In my opinion, what "Borat" tries to accomplish is pretty pathetic. He's trying to point out the flaws and prejudices in a bunch of rednecks. Why spend all that money to make the movie? I could've told you the same damn thing for free!
I wish i didn't need to point this out, but the whole movie is just satire. Many people are taking this waaaaaayyyy too seriously.

Think first, then post.

i guess overall i'd just say a lot of it was really sophomoric... generic toilet humor...
Whoa bro, maybe we could talk about something really enlightening, like smoking ganja? Mybe someone who's like some sort of a student of marijuana?
okay, that last post was really, really funny. get it 'fly'--he's poking fun at a guy named marijuolist calling something sophomoric, when the whole notion of being a 'student of weed' is itself very sophomoric. get it?

Perhaps, but it wouldn't have been funny to watch. Movies are entertaining, that's why we watch them. If we actually learn something from them, then that is just a bonus.
what the hell does that mean? the movie isn't funny,...it just makes fun of people who don't know better. wow...tough feat.
than jackasses like you pay $10 to watch it, laugh, and think you are better than others. sorry, but i'm not fooled by childish behavior. i know it when i see it. better luck next time douche....
I have to admit, the guy has no fear.
and another thing....people need to stop hiding behind the phrase "well, it's just satire". satire is a fickle thing...and most of it sucks. Just b/c something attempts to be satirical, doesn't make it good.

what were they fooled by? when borat says that homosexuals are beaten and hung in his country, and the old rodeo guy says, "We're trying to get there," what are you missing?
it's stupid, that's what i'm saying. were you actually surprised that the redneck said "well we're trying to get there"? if you were, I feel for you, I really do. It's nothing that I'M missing...it's that most people get a cheap laugh at the expense of someone who doesn't know any better...and then feel better about themselves because of it...something about that seems overtly self-righteous.
Think honestly about this (you won't, but try)....how many homosexuals does that rodeo guy know? Chances are...none. The entire film is like that (including the deleted scenes, I've seen most of them). It's just not funny at all. It makes people feel all warm and fuzzy that they aren't "those people". How does this movie encourage people to change their ways? It doesn't...it's satire, yes...but very poor and predictable satire. You can't pass the movie off as slap stick, b/c it is so obviously not...thus you are left with satire...and satire for it's own sake is just plain lame.

why are you directing that to me.. did you not read a word i said? or did you simply pull parts of my conversation out of context? i have stated from the outset that the movie was likely more than just an insane documentary of toilet comedy, citing specific reasons. afterward someone pointed out ebert's summary, which happens to be similar to mine. it does not make our opinions fact. can you get that through your thick head? huh? can you? probably not. your reading comprehension does not appear higher than 5th grade level.
Just some comments:
I'm guessing it'll be harder to expose people as ignorant if they know they're going to be exposed as ignorant. I feel bad for them, but it's not like they were forced to do these things.
Why should people anywhere hate anyone for no reason? Isn't that a pretty backwards thing on its own?
The authority of science... I'm glad "research has shown" that you can't change people's prejudices. I'm sure it's never happened once, to anyone, ever.
A lot of the things we do are silly. Maybe we should think about the things we do and the views we hold and consider if the only reason we think things is because that's what we're "suppsoed" to think. And the movie was funny.
Read reviews like Steve Sailer's. They have this coward's motives tagged. He's just another arrogant putz laughing at those who aren't of his ilk, thinking no one is smart enough to catch on.
You are American. Of course it will offend you as it makes you look like a bunch of c***s!
Stitching people up on their prejudices is one thing. Doing this to people who don't even speak the same language and don't know how they are being described is very different.
I wonder if this is true:
