lazy,
Me too. Only losers ran the mile in gym class. While they were doing that, I got to head to the batting cage and hit 80 MPH fastballs - now that was fun!

Ran the 600 for President's Physical Fitness test in 1:25 in 10th grade gym. Later ran it in 1:21.8 in indoor track as a senior. Never ran the mile for time in gym class.
Our PE teacher had measured an accurate mile around the school and parking lot (not the best place to run fast) every few months we would run it in PE. I usually just ran for fun in 4:50ish, but there was a school record of 4:34 from five years ago by a guy I knew who went on to become a succesful runner in college and is now trying to run professionally. He had got together a reley team to pace him. So I gethered up a few of the guys on the team and one PE class when the band was outside playing we went for the record. I ran 4:26 and consider it one of my best races because of the difficulty of the course (even though I ran much faster on the track obviously)lot of fun anyway, gave my freinds shit for going out too fast on one lap or another.
I remember my high schools best runner ran a 4:45 mile on the track with stopping to tie his shoes. In real race, he ran about 4:18
haha... no... i guess it wasn't. once my buddy and i cruised a 5:00 mile in gym... just cause. other than that, i probably rarely if ever broke 6:00. the gym mile always fell on meet days so i was always afraid to run any harder.
How long did it take for you to make that story up?

Soccer Girl would have the national record for the mile, unfortunatly 4:35 1600 converts to over 4:36. Sorry Soccer Girl hahaha. Anyone who believes that is retarded.
We had a 'cross country' mile that our whole school had to do once a year. I won the overall race in the 9th grade in a sizzling 3:38. I tried to tell people that it was far short of a mile, but few seemed to believe me. At the time John Walker held the world record with his 3:49.4, so I guess in their eyes I was a wonderkind.
Happy Man,
There is a park (one of many) that I run in, and they have a "1 mile loop" with a big sign that says "Loop = 1 mile". Well, last night I went for a run of 4 miles which included 4 laps of this "mile loop" and after going very slowy since I'm nursing a couple injuries, I covered the first loop in 5:45, the second one in 5:30, the third one in 5:25, and the last loop when I slowed to more of a jog in 5:55. Ha! I wish I were running comfortably that fast. More likely, I was doing 7:30 pace on average and perhaps a little over 8:00 for the last mile.
Most people have no idea how far a mile is.
