You hardly need an MBA to figure out that accepting $500 in lost revenue (your number) to avoid replacing a watch which probably costs them $30 is bad business. Multiply by the number of people who have a similar experience and it makes a dent in your annual report.

I don't expect any service at Target. In fact, I don't shop at Target at all because I don't like to have to deal with retards like you, but if I did shop there I'd do it because it's cheap, not because I'd expect high-quality products.

Oh, and let me explain something.

Watch = durable good, comes with warranty.

Bagel Bites = perishable, as in non-durable.

Yeah, some of the little start-ups don't manufacture in Asia. NB does a fair amount of their tech manufacturing and assembly in Maine. The rest is done overseas, though. Those factories are pretty well regulated by the companies these days to ensure quality work environments, however.

I've never even run in Locos either. They're just the only ones I know of that are made locally. But they're made of the same materials as shoes of the past so maybe you should stop running in boxes with tissues and try them on. If you know of others, please share with us.

Personally I have no problem buying the shoes made in Mizuno sweatshops or Nike sweatshops or anybody elses.

I have left out no information. I don't expect me posting this is going to hurt Nike I just thought it was a rude letter and wanted to share it with other runners. I didn't try to return shoes I got for free, I bought those, but I do get nike shoes through my school as well. I only returned 2 pairs and my roommmate returned 4 I think. Maybe that considered abusing the system, but in my opinion it just shows that their shoes suck. I am not buying nike shoes anymore. The thing that just made me mad was the way I was treated when talking to customer service and the wording of the letter. I am not an idiot and I know Nike is a huge corporation and me bitching isn't going to make them change or hurt them in any way,I am simply just telling my story that is what these boards are for. I am sure there are a ton of people who abuse the system but I don't think the number we used is excessive.

I wouldn't just make this up because I have been a very loyal customer to Nike for years and can guarantee they have probably ripped me off way more than I could ever rip them off by trying to get paid back for some very poorly made running shoes.

I didn't care how they would fix it. I was perfectly willing to let them keep it for 2 weeks and just replace the strap, or whatever they suggested. The watch itself was working fine, it's probably still ticking away just fine in some box at Parsec with my CIM splits still on it.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did ask the first clerk for the manager and got some 40-something Asian woman whose nametag said customer service manager. I did not escalate beyond that. Niketown is a store for kids and tourists anyway so my expectations were kinda low going in.

but you do need an MBA to understand that things have changed in retail. There is no longer a blind policy of the customer is always right. This is because these companies are losing more in scam customers than they would in losing sensitive customers.

However, a good retailer will take back one item no matter how much of a jackasshole they are dealing with. They should then take the jackassholes information, so that if the returns become a trend they can revoke the policy for said jackasshole. example.......first poster who it would seem has been abusing the policy of nike. This is a customer nike can NOT afford to keep.

Check your owners manual - straps are not considered a warranty item. Most watch and monitor manufacturers only warranty the movement and sensors. Straps are considered cosmetic and too prone to damage (sweat, UV, catching on something, etc.) to warranty.

Yes and no. What is happening in retail (and not just there, and not just recently) is that competition is becoming more global and products are becoming more and more commoditized. So you have to differentiate yourself. A few companies are able to do so on product features, others do it on service or price, and some try to do it on image. Different strategies attract different types of customers.

I value service, so I don't shop at Target or Macy's or from random cheap places on the web. So I end up paying a little more, but it's worth it to me.

I also value quality products, but I'm not willing to go nuts over image. I, like so many others, foolishly thought Nike was quality but they have chosen to differentiate on image. That sells a lot of pretty pink and orange jog bras at Niketown, but I'm done with their crap if they can't treat me with respect.

Your suggestion is probably what many companies do, while others simply play the numbers. For every 10 complaining customers, 1 or 2 are pedantic assholes that cost you money, but if you treat everybody with respect the other 8 or 9 will more than make up for it. Turning all 10 away is bad business.

With all do respect your not sponsored by Nike you expected them to take care of your running needs is complete BS that is what guys who are serious runners but IE have a contract with Nike get not a random Joe. I don't blame nike and sending back two pairs of shoes in your course is abusing the system. I have been running for 15 years now and gurantee my times are alot more impressive then yours and you know how many shoes I have sent back in my career? A big fat 0.

If service is a feature of the product, then the lack of service is a product defect.

My case is a watch which is defective inasmuch as the strap broke due to flimsy construction. Unless Nike tells me that 12 months is all you should expect to get from their $110 watches.

Its not like I just blindly sent these shoes in, nike has a policy that if you believe your shoe has a defect then you can sent them in and they will inspect them and if they believe there is a defect they will give you credit for what the shoe is worth. I sent in shoes 4 months ago, I got vouchers, and then recently for no reason they send me a rude letter, I personally did not send another pair of shoes in and I haven't even used my vouchers, and probably won't. I don't think you would be too happy to get a letter out of nowhere that attacks you and tells you that you are abusing the system when you just sent in 2 pairs of shoes 4 months ago that they had ALREADY APPROVED. If I sent in some shoes and they didn't give me any vouchers I wouldn't be mad, but I didn't I was minding my own business and they sent me a rude letter. The point is that they are a huge corporation and because of that they treat customers like shit and assume they are cheating. I am not saying I should get any "perks" or get treated like I am Alan Webb I just don't feel like being disrespected, I did nothing wrong on my part and don't deserve that treatment.

Here's what you do.

You take a big $hit in a pair of Nikes and package them up and mail them off to Customer Service with this letter.

Dear Sir,

I purchased these here Nike Shox just two months ago. At first they didn't smell too bad but lately they reall have been Shocking!...pun fully intended. For want of a better word, they smell like $hit.

I have never had a $hitty smell come from my Adidas or my Mizuno shoes just these Nikes. I have no idea what the problem could be. Please help me.

Basically, don't buy a watch from Nike. I don't know how it is now, but with mine they expected you to mail your watch away for a battery. Well, I got mine changed at a local watch store and the thing fogged up from them on out. The first battery hadn't lasted long anyways. Here is my suggestion....BUY A TIMEX IRONMAN watch or an Armitron...cheaper and better quality from my experience.

Additionally, I have run in Nike shoes on and off for years. I never get more than 400 miles out of a pair. The only Nike shoe I can wear now is the Zoom Elite. Nike doesn't truly cater to the running crowd, if you ask me. Like one person said "style not substance" is what they are about. Buy Asics or Brooks!
