Teg is the man. After his 2 mile at pre I started pulling for him to break the record over all the other guys. Also because he seems like a really cool guy. He def. has the best shot right now, as long as Lagat doesnt go for it. The question is when will Teg go sub 13, and when he does, will he try out a 10k while hes in peak 5k form, perhaps breaking our slow 10k American Record.
The thing about Teg is that he is incredible consistent, seldom a bad race. And plenty room for improvement in increased mileage for the next couple of years.
Team for world cross next year...with Teg, Goucher, Ritz and Hall...maybe a medal behind Kenya and Team Bekele.

Ritz will get injured again and won't run at worlds. Goucher will have a bad race at USATF and not make the team. Hall will be in poor form. Teg will never run this fast again. They'll be lucky to get top 5.

Listening to Jerry Schumacher interview he said 2 weeks before nationals Teg ran 2000m - 6min rest - then 2-4x300m
He's times were: 5.06 (passed mile in 4.05) then 300s in 40.0 in the last one.
Impressive stuff, he also mention that the weekly tempo-run 8-12 miles going from 6.00 to 4.40 is very important.

Hate to correct people, but he backed off of training last year (2005) when he ran his old PR's of 13:25 and 3:39. He said he wanted to be healthy last year because getting a contract was important, even if it meant not running as fast. This year he has bumped his mileage up towards the 90's and no the 70's he was doing last year. Keep in mind he's talking badger miles (based off of 7 minute pace)... 70 miles is closer to 80 and 80 B.M.'s is closer to 90 and so forth.
Great job Matt! For those of you that didn't see this coming, I am somewhat shocked. He had injury problems in college and still ran in the 1320's. Not to mention he had run 13:30ish in 2003 and 2004...that definitely shows potential for someone who had gotten injured as that's just as fast as, say a Torres or even Goucher when they were in college. The ability was always there...3:39 last year, 3:56 early in the year coupled with an 8:16 2M at Pre and closing in 2:57 at USA's...great job matt! Keep up the great work.

How do you know that? He didn't mention it during the interview. It was an interview conducted by his management, why would he tell them about something they didn't even know about?
I am just simply amazed that a thread has lasted this long on Letsrun wihtout someone bashing Teg for something.
i said it on an earlier thread when he ran 339 and i'll say it again. tegenkamp will be the fastest american at 5k this year. if he has to break the AR to do it, it will happen. i doubt the 10k is in his plans the rest of the season but would make for an interesting race. the guy has been an aerobic monster ever since high school and is really finding his speed now.
will Flagpole try and ascert that he is still not as talented as Ritz????????

I would bet almost any sum of money that Goucher will better this time during his next 5000 race. This will motivate him like nothing else, and he will want to be the fastest 5000 guy by the end of the summer, just like last year. Plus, Lincoln might go low 13 or faster in London, though I don't know who is in the race. All of these guys were neck and neck at that Pre 2-mile a few weeks back, with none of them being in peak form. Lincoln and Teg have shown that they are ready to roll, and Goucher will be too.
