If you ranked all countries based on the quality of the top-15 individual players, USA would probably be around 30th-35th. Then factoring in the coach and the system and all those things that make a team, they drop to 50th with the current coach. In the hands of good, internationally experienced coach, the US could become a top-25 team in the world.

What is Wynalda doing on this board? One forward can work. Three forwards can work. It just depends on your team's style and personnel.
Germany is currently playing crazy attacking soccer. Their outside backs are making runs up to the front and sending in crosses and playing really interchangeably with their left and right wings. Hell, I'd guess that Lahm maybe has crossed the ball in more often than Schweinsteiger or Schneider. The US had no attack in their game and it didn't have anything to do with their formation. It had to do with their players sucking.
Well, the Americans where the best in their entire region. I guess they are the best team in North America.
The problems is that the US team suffered a strange setback during the first game of the World Cup. It is one of those things that cannot be explained, but they always happen in sports.
The game where the US tied Italy was a more accurate indictation of the teams talent. 9 our of 10 times the US would have beaten Ghana.
All the world cup showed was the US is a decent team that is not the world's 5th best team.
Arena will probably be back. However, he looks a bit burned out. He should rest for awhile and get back to business.
