Also, if I was in the US and considering the military, I'd look at the air force and coastguard, so you may want to explore that for yourself.
It's a serious career path so you need to be informed and understand as much as possible about it. In the UK you can join at 16 and I'm not sure if 16 year olds have that level of understanding really. You can apply at 15 years and 7 months. To me, that is very young.
Regarding your career and the military, I'd say it all depends on your role. Some people are going to be deployed and see combat and see awful things. Some aren't. There's a wide variety of roles from chef to IT to soldier, they're all different and massively so. The role you choose is the most important thing. My ex didn't come back the same. I won't repeat the story in case that was what caused the post deletion but it involved combat in Basra a long time ago and it's horrifying as you can probably imagine.
This is the document regarding the medical requirements:
I hope this is helpful.
You see OP, this poster even openly admits how much the military mistreated her own ex husband. It’s so painful and graphic that she says the mods had to delete the post. The air force and coastguard suck too. You get a McDonalds wage and crappy housing to risk your life in routine rescue exercises using equipment that is often faulty and not properly expected. OP, I’m a veteran who is trying to help you. Don’t listen to people with no experience who have only a secondary understanding of what it’s like. The military destroys people’s lives, especially their own soldiers.
