120 mpw, a family, changing brands, and trying to figure out how to pay bills while injured is most certainly not the fountain of youth.
He never went without a contract, so he had money the whole time. And the year making the olympics brought in a ton of money, he's doing just fine.... So stress from 'paying the bills' isn't really part of the problem. And people run 120 mile weeks with a family while having a full-time regular job. We just had 10 Americans run sub 2:10, Miranda and Murphy I don't know too much, they might have a regular job. Certainly Wiley at 2:10 has a regular job running ball park 120 mile weeks.
Correct- most contracts get a minimal baseline. Emphasis on “minimal” there.
He just ran 2:05. That is not anything close to 2:10. And why even mention Miranda and Murphy when you had no idea? What in the world, man? Bizarre post needing to defend that stance in the first place, and just got weirder from there. I can assure you that at age 33 after years of 100 mile weeks at altitude, a family, a new contract, and an injury is going to age a guy. Very odd that someone would want to refute that.

Because I know for a fact the other sub 2:10 guys have 'real' contracts, and those two guys are not on my radar (which is saying something) so I wouldn't be surprised if they're barely scraping by right now. I know for a fact Wiley does not have a contract at 2:10 because I know him.
Also a lot of those guys' 'minimal baseline' is still around $100k... I know comparable women to Young who are over $100k before any incentives or appearance fees or prize money. Young last year was likely bringing in near $300k with his 'base line', appearance fees, prize money.

I’ve been following the sport pretty closely for over a decade, I was watching on TV when Clayton won his NCAA 10k, watched most of his big races. I’ve seen him in person multiple times. I also work in the medical field and examine ~10 people a day. It is my opinion that 2026 Clayton looks different, he has lost weight. He looks aged, a little gaunt. He has lost fat in his face. If I were describing him professionally I would say he has a malnourished.
His wife has been posting pictures of Clayton’s food, and I guess people have been responding to the effect that he isn’t eating enough. Today on her instagram she felt the need to defend the portion sizes. Interesting. I would be not be surprised if we see a great year followed by many injury problems.
He very clearly states his weight in his most recent YouTube video:

Really great race for Clayton today, I don't think he could have asked for a better race. Better build up yes, but to execute on the day, he has to be really proud of this. Still beat Klecker, Ford, Linkletter, Maier, etc

Just stop, dude. Very silly hill to die on.
What hill to die on? Dude’s clearly pointing out Young has likely made a large chunk of money in his career from running, especially after making the Olympics two years ago. So “paying the bills” isn’t likely a big stressor for him as a previous poster said, he never went without contract and has been at the level to get large appearance fees for years now
