I hope he's getting paid to do this. Because if it's for just some BS like Japanese pride or honor, it's pathetic to go out at an unsustainable pace only to eventually embarrass yourself by crashing out for absolutely nothing.
I admire Hashimoto. Guys like him have something inside him that you’ll never be able to understand.
You're right, if I'm going to make a fool of myself I at least want $50k from a sponsor for the screentime I'm giving them.

This Hashimoto guy doesn’t care what you think though. He isn’t worried whether his race strategy is approved by you or Rojo, as he has the kind of courage which makes legends.
17 guys were in the lead main group at halfway in 61:59. The last two Japanese NR holders plus Cam Levins are in the second pack (62:49). Casey Clinger hit halfway in 63:07.
The leading women's group includes 6 women and they hit 20k on 215:20 pace.
he is slowing but quite surprised he is still holding on to that given the past few weeks. if he somehow does not completely implode, PB or semi respectable time is actually somewhat still possible (which is a big laugh and good job to him tbh)
Almost no chance Hashimoto hangs on but he did run really aggressively at the New Year Ekiden and finished 8th on the longest (2nd) stage. Same time that day as Ryota Kondo who is today billed as one of the Japanese favourites and has run 2:05:39. So while this is crazy, Hashimoto is probably much better than his 2:09:40 suggests
So again. He was 8th on a stage . And he's trying to run the national leg in the marathon and easily run the fastest time by a non-African by a wide margin?
This is embarrassing. He's not going to break 2:10.
Look at the Japanese guy in the lead pack. Look how relaxed they look. Those are real runners. This guy is a sideshow.

Who the hell is RTJ?
ran to japan. Jake Barraclough, 2:14 runner but has a youtube channel and is with brooks. He's a big mileage guy like cam levins
