The actual suicide rate in the US is 60% higher than that in Canada. All these Americans here want to b!tch about maid but don't really want to help people. They want to control you.
This is an area where I, as a progressive, agree with many conservatives. There is something very twisted and evil about assisted suicide. Saint Pope John Paul II, who in his final years was suffering from Parkinson's. He could have easily and secretly chosen euthanasia. Instead, he bore witness to the sanctity of life and to the gospel he preached.
Spoken like someone who has never witnessed real end-of-days suffering. If YOU want to suffer and drag out your death, go right ahead, nobody will stop you. But this idea that other people should be obligated to spend their final days in excruciating pain because YOUR gospel demands it? Twisted and evil.
You are mistaken. I was with my father when he took his last breath. He was a diabetic, suffered through several amputations, and had complete renal failure. He could have prolonged his life with dialysis, but he chose not to. My mother even called the local Catholic Priest, who came to the house. He advised my mother that she had to respect my father's wishes. To let him go. And that is the difference. To accept a natural death, rather than choosing suicide.
As a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound, I have had the honor to be with families as their loved ones departed. It was not assisted suicide, but a natural death.
The only way to solve this is for Canada to become the cherished 51st state. No more artificially drawn line from many years ago. Look how beautiful this land mass would be. Free access with NO BORDER. ALL POSITIVES WITH NO NEGATIVES. IT WAS MEANT TO BE! America can no longer subsidize Canada with the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year that we have been spending in the past. It makes no sense unless Canada is a State!
What I don't understand about this situation is that if you read the news coverage of this guy, he was perfectly capable of killing himself without medical help but spent years trying to get approved for medical suicide. Was he suicidal but lazy?
At age 75 we're all going to have to submit documentation to prove our utility to society. Canada is simply on the cutting edge. Just ask Ezekiel Emmanuel (brother of Rahm, author of Obamacare).

I thought you Americans believed in freedom. Can't handle the fact that we are have more of it in Canada.

Ah, so you are a religious nut - that explains it. Truly sorry for your dad but you need to readjust your beliefs.
At what point in life would Helen Keller fit the criteria for termination?
Why the downvotes without giving your reason? Seriously. She was left deaf, dumb, and blind after an illness; surely those attributes would place her in the box.
Are the downvotes because she held communist beliefs and this entire conversation is a left v right discussion?

You are lacking in reading comprehension. My father chose to die naturally. None of us, his family members, forced death upon him. You call me a religious nut. I am in good company. Jesus himself was accused of being crazy.
You guys don't know what it feels like to be horribly depressed and alone if you don't understand why people want to visit the next world.
I'll just wait til I'm kidnapped and taken by surprise, because I don't want to accidentally tag the lever to the underworld, and visit Jeff Einstein & Co.
