That’s kind of dumb for the Virginia Tech program. All they had to do was put one other Virginia Tech person in the field and have them finish the race and George’s time could have been legit. He would’ve had the fastest non-altitude time in the NCAA, but the NCA doesn’t sanction races where you only have one NCAA runner in the field

Christian Jackson was in the race. Do they have to finish?

2nd indoor all-time to Jakob's 3:45.14 set last year in Liévin, France. Nuguse, 3:46.63 and Kessler, 3:46.90, also last year indoors.
Outdoors 7 have beaten 3:46.00, including Hicham El G., 3:43.13, Ngeny 3:43.40, Jakob 3:43.73, Nuguse 3:43.97, Morceli 3:44.39, Kerr 3:45.34, and Laros 3:45.94.
Tbh, I think indoors, overall is as fast, for many runners, especially on tracks like Boston. The very top monsters, have faster outdoors, in general.
In swimming, short pool (25m) is always faster than long pool (50m) for swimmers, because of the push and recovery each 25m from the wall.
people critical of Ruth's time and comparing it to BU either weren't watching him, or don't understand what they're watching. He just worked too hard. It was a tactically poor race, which is extremely fair for a 16 year old. This is a great learning experience for him. He learned the difference between a time trial and a race.

1500m split of 3:29.63 vs 3:30.80 for Jakob and Hocker. Clearly Jakob is the one with more leeway timewise because he was aiming for the 1500m time and then just hanging on for the mile. I think Jakob goes sub 3:45 in that case and on BU that turns into 3:44 flat.
saw Hocker's quotes, was already a fan, up a notch, with his assessment of his abilities, and his mindset, which was rock and roll all the way. it's as if he reads the boards, next step is to get that string of wins, and he's on track right now.
awesome.
regarding shade on Ruthe, no worries, after that terrible 352, he should retire in disgrace.
if Ruthie ran 344 this summer, and then a 349, you can bet your bottom dollar the haters will say, he's peaked, he's this, he's that.
I must admit, I did not expect that from Cole. Very impressive.
Ruthe was fine. As Rojo said, he tried to mix it up with the big boys, it didn't quite work out this time, but he will have learned something. Props to him for trying.
What's funny is when Kenyans run fast times then people claimed it was impossible and they must be on drugs. Now that a white guy is doing it....what drugs is he on?

no, zero
he hung with the pace, until 3/4 the way and done.
Hocker is about as consistent an elite runner as you will find. Shows up all the time. Either winning or coming close. Seemingly never has an "off" race. So hard to do.
This is just another example of his greatness. Forced to lead from fairly far out and he more than answered the call. Many guys would have struggled with that. Hocker thrived. Finished Lile a champion. I was thinking he would be a full second slower than this. 3:45.94! Just a sensational job.

racebating is out of style.
ya, super fast times are a red flag in themselves.
however, kenyans there are almost 600 busted all time,
these dudes are often in the middle of nowhere playing the system for years with whereabouts, so those numbers are likely very low.
4 runners from new zealand were busted all time, 17 athletes in all sports all time.
in the past, all iron curtain athletes were on peds, and everyone knew it. russia got the boot,
sure there is something going on, AI says shoes and tracks account for 0.8 seconds a lap, and bicarb an x factor.
that makes hockers run a 349.
which i believe actually.
i don't believe journeymen with a so so style running a 350 equals a young coe in a billion zillion years.

which was about 347 pace, he had run 348 high
that is good info, in a good race.
He spent roughly the first 500 meters in lane 2, trying to pass Teare and Ciatti, then spent some energy passing Teare on a bend at maybe around 1000 meters.
he really, really wanted to be behind hocker. i guess it's the only scenario he envisioned going into the race. if he had been content to sit behind Teare, he may have run 2 or 3 seconds faster. maybe even 4.
I liked the grit and competitive spirit he showed, but he's just not ready for the level he was hoping for.
It'll be awesome seeing him progress, maybe even more so because he looked so human today. with good health, there's another 10 years or more of this kid.
Hocker reminds me of the American runners of the 1970s-80s, solid, show up anywhere anytime and produce quality performances. Steve Scott was Mr. Reliable for a decade-and-half. The 1990s was HORRIBLE for American milers...buch of wusses when it came to international athletics.
But Hocker consistent? Lol. He's won a handful of races in the last two years. Big races, some fast times, but last year he was consistently worked over on the Diamond League circuit and finished 3rd at USAs. He's consistently mediocre for a guy with multiple gold medals.
I hope he steps up and regulates during the Diamond League this year. But he hasn't yet come close to dominating like Jakob did.
As a Hocker hater I’m devastated. Hoping Strand can pull something in outdoors. Would not be surprised if we have somebody random pull a Hoey and starts transforming into a 3:28 runner. Feels like we have way too many talents for somebody new not to catch up to Hocker soon. Actually was funny last year that both Koech and Strand beat him. I wish I could watch Strand vs Hocker in a 100m or 200m race so we could know who has the better raw kick.
“He’s the Olympic Champion he’s unstoppable.”
This is America distance renaissance son we’re pumping massive talents every year…watch out man.
