In fairness, Ruthe is closer to Cooper in the 800 than Cooper is to him in the mile.
The difference is where they are on the world stage. I think everyone in the 800 is worried about cooper. He is a serious medal contender. Ruthe is sensational but I don't think many of the big dogs in the 1500 are legitimately worried. This doesn't mean he can't medal but the betting odds are stronger for cooper

Correct. When place matters more than time, you can't find it late if you spent it early. Equal talent, who has more motivation? The guy who led, hammer down or the guy that is still discovering what is possible and has the top 3 in his sights?
Some people just never get it until its too late. JH might be one of those people. Winning is more important than time. If you dont learn how to win, the confidence slips when it counts the most. By the way, he didnt go, oh well, Im the Indoor world champion. He probably cried a lot and watched his race on TV. Training harder doesnt teach how to win. Watching the clock doesn't win races either. If you train well and stay healthy, you only have a chance, is the reality. Try not leading like an out of control freshman once. CL is never out of control.
Thanks for posting that so quickly. Harris was always a jerk. I remember him cutting off Murphy at Nats some uears back. It was a deliberate attempt to impede and trip Clayton but Murphy roared back and smoked him as usual.
If you ever get to see him run in person, watch him closely after the race if he loses. It’s almost comical.

Hobbs Kessler did that for the 1500 meters while in high school, although in fairness that NCAA record was soft as butter -- a lot of guys have since beaten that mark (including the mile equivalent).

You are correct. I remember Martin running sub-4 in a high school only race, but as my source listed Ryun as the high school only leader, I thought that Gary's time was slower. Bad source; I should have double checked.
