Gault is one of, if not, THE best reporters in our sport. I think his sentiment is clear and valid. Track and Field lacks the allure of an athlete with personality or character with the ability to produce at a high level. That creates interest.
Langon is unapologetic and desires to be great. How is that not "interesting"? I agree with Gault, he is interesting. Dude went into lane 3 in an indoor college meet in February to win while running 734 flat. Look at JDL to see what 734 gets you, it ain't nothing.
Then he proceeds to go off in a post race interview about the NCAA protocols and the balls of a Mormon freshman.
Shut up to anyone who doesn't see the value in a kid like this to our sport! Is he the fastest in the world? Is he the most polished? No. But he certainly has people talking. I hear the folks who speak about cursing on camera etc etc that should be toned down. But emotion is emotion and it is real and I think there is a dearth of realness in XC/TF in things like this.
End of the day, I believe he certainly makes watching collegiate indoor distance track and field more entertaining! And I think entertaining is synonymous with "interesting".
Long story, short. Gault rocks and Langon is a rockstar runner! Rockstars are interesting at the very very least!!!

As Always, Go Zags
He is not the most exciting runner. Langon cries about losing an earring and cheats to win. Habtom Samuel runs most of an XC race with only 1 shoe and still got 2nd. His foot was torn up from getting spiked and from the ground.
Langon wants to make people think he's tough. Habtom Samuel PROVES he is tough.
It’s rare that I root against an athlete (, Mekhissi-Benabbad being the exception) rather than just for ones I like. But that finish deserved a DQ and apology. anyways, looking forward to seeing him race again and hopefully eat some humble pie.
Its tough out there now..5K has never been better or deeper...other events now as well. You could run really really fast as PRs and not make any teams.
Well, to make my Point, Graham Blanks won 2 NCAA XC titles, not one, two. Q'ed for an Olympics, and then later has run 12:48. Fisher and Nico are better than him..I would say as I think he can run under 13 flat ability wise now at 21, he has U.S. next level ability 3:33.x 7:30's twice..13:05 in December. Can he beat Parker Wolfe, who I think is one of the toughest guys getting the most out of his ability I have seen in a while? Not sure. But Wolfe was third at Trials and could not go. And has run 7:30, and races tough almost every time. 7th at NC's cross and is still "only 22 and 7 months. I would have liked or would like to see Marco come back from Cross, but I get it if he takes a pass. I would say based on nothing more than a guess and that his window will go past a few really great guys, that I would venture,, no sustained injuries..65/35 he makes a team. Think about 5K , Nuguase moves up..Hocker is already a factor...Lot of guys. All this recent stuff aside, he is tough , for sure and is supremely gifted 3:33.x at 20 for 5 and 10K runners does not hang on trees.
65% chance he makes the USA 5k team? are you crazy? Hes not on the same level as Blanks, Nico, Wolfe, Hocker, Fisher, etc. I would easily take a healthy Rocky over him as well. He hasn’t won anything and if he didn’t have tattoos and an attitude you wouldn’t even know who he was. The current pros are on a different level.

Rocky Hansen has not run faster yet at any distance, I like Rocky Hansen too, but until he beats him OR runs faster , he is behind him and Gary Martin on the track anyway, not by much but he is .By the way, oh genius, I know exactly who everyone is and how good they are. 65% is what I put on it. You can think what you want, he ran 13:05 in December. 3:33.x last year. 7:34 twice. He is good enough and getting better like it or not. The current guys you mentioned are better than him by a bit, he is 21 and improving every year. You don't have to confuse not liking him with ability though. Even the haters on here would concede how talented he is. He is going under 13:00 in outdoors. For sure. He has a 6-7 year window to make ONE team..I say that happens, you can disagree...and you would be wrong. LOL, kidding, everyone is entitled.
He reminds me of that tiny kid from Florida that transferred to Smoky Hill HS when the Kaltenbachs were there. He thought he was a bada$ and I think he thought he stood a chance with one of the sisters. He wasn't and he didn't. And he completely disappeared in college.
Ryan Deak? Marco is waaaaaayyyyyy better than Deak. Marco has already run faster than Prefontaine. You will remember Marco Langon's name.
The Irish remember him as the fool that ruined his season showboating a meaningless mile. Someone needs to talk some sense into this guy. He's obviously an outstanding prospect and a highly talented athlete, but he seems to get in the way of his own success.
