I’d like to state for the record that she is an excellent announcer. She knows every fact and understands the dynamics of distance races. She calls them with emotion and rigor. So much better than some of the other jokers NBC used to employ. Good work Kara.
Are you freakin' kidding me!
Kara's credentials as a runner are awesome, and she seems like a good person (I don't know her personally), unfortunately, she just doesn't have the talent to be a good commentator. She becomes way too emotional during races, which includes screaming and yelling to the point that she's almost out of breath. Commentating is a talent, and knowing when to shut up or to be excited at the right times is crucial of how your message is being perceived. Obviously, someone at NBC loves her, and she isn't going anywhere anytime soon. As far as good commentators go, I like Carrie Tollefson. She knows the sport, and has a calm professional delivery on air. If while watching a sporting event, and you notice that the commentator is annoying or talking too much, that's not good. Good commentators shouldn't be obvious, they blend in with the broadcast and provide supplemental information. They themselves are not the broadcast, the race is.
