This argument is no more useful than vo2max is as the sole predictor of performance. One could have just a pretty good vo2max — possibly “mediocre” among elites — and still be the best; all orthogonal to drug use.
VO2 was Everything back then. Guarantee he knows the number (although, he's lied through his whole life and it's hard to remember when you're pathological like him--just keep piling on the layers). It was a low number, this is why he was so dominate on drugs. Someone that has an initially high hematocrit can boost it a bit, say 48 to 60, but someone starting from 39 boosting to 60 will see a greater gain. He doped way earlier than U.S. Postal. Sure, his tri career was good, that was fueled by pure hate. Then he started working with Carmichael, Weisel, and all those gigantic cheaters, later moving on up to the King, Dr Ferrari

That's just ridiculous. You have no idea what you're talking about.
He's very knowledgeable about the tactics. He's funny and self deprecating. Lance and George Hincapie tease each other. He's not the image that you portray.
Yes, a lot of nasty stuff went down 20+ years ago. My biggest gripe is how Pantani was the fall guy to elevate Lance. That should be investigated.
I know in his book... he said as a high school kid he had the highest VO2 max ever tested at Cooper Institute in Dallas.
Ed Coyle was a professor at Texas and probably tested him and knew him better than any other exercise scientist out there.... As a pro he had Armstrong consistently at about 86ml/kg/min after he dropped his weight in the comeback. That is really high for a guy who is 155-160 lbs... as VO2 max per body weight tends to be higher in smaller people and higher in absolute terms in larger people.

Wasn't his VO2 mac more like 83-4?
Anyway 6 liters/min which is what you would expect from an endurance athlete with his physique.
All that EPO nonsense was a silly arms race. I wish intelligent people with knowledge of Bioenergetics would acknowledge this because to not acknowledge it is disingenuous.

I portrayed him as charismatic and entertaining. I also admire his leadership.
I never singled out Lance for his doping, considering that many of his competitors were also doping, and doping in cycling had a long history before Lance.
What bothers me most about Lance is the way he treated everyone else and destroyed the lives and livelihoods of anyone who got on his wrong side: his friends, his employees, his former employees, his teammates and former teammates, competitors, reporters, and even former cycling legend LeMond.
