as an old dog watching that race, the pacemaker seemed out of his depth, and the overall pacing wasn't great. Lessons in there. Not sure what the coach had instructed but I'd say it went off script possibly.
On a schoolboy's 60kpw. If he trained seriously he would be sub-3:50 already. Ingebrigtsen was running 100kpw at 12.
He's been running 40-60 mpw for at least the last year. Also what works for Ingebrigtsen does not necessarily work for Ruthe.
What "works for Ingebrigtsen"? The Norwegian was only one of the greatest prodigies the sport has seen at a young age - as well as being a 3:26x runner in his prime. So another 16 year old can train on a fraction of what Ingebrigtsen did (and for only two years) and yet be faster. What if Ruthe trained on only 20mpw and not 40mpw? You guys would still be trying to justifying it by saying it "works for him". This place is as ridiculous as the sport has become. We have just seen 3 Americans smashing records in the last week. Whatever they are doing obviously "works for them", too.

Army constantly accuses Ruthe of doping, but still has so much hatred and jealousy of Ingebrigsten he has to attempt to get a snide jab in. LOL
Hardly a snide jab. Ingebrigtsen was a teen prodigy. He trained twice as hard as Ruthe does and didn't break the 16 year old age record on only two years training. Obviously nowhere near as talented as Ruthe. There isn't any other possible explanation. Is there?

Jim Ryun broke four minutes in the mile after a year and a half of (admittedly terrible) training. What’s your point? For all we know Ruthe’s training might have served Ingebrigsten better and/or vice versa. It’s a guessing game with some luck involved. Jakob has two Olympic Gold medals a couple of WC golds and a couple of silvers. He’s done alright. One can’t be sure Ruthe will do as well (I hope he does). It’s wait and see.

😂 You talk about Jakob like he’s long dead.
I am talking about him when he was 16. That was quite a few years ago. (With his injuries he is also not currently in his prime).

He also swam outrageous amounts of distance as a youngster. One week he swim more than many high school kids run [ i forget the total, but it was a bit mind boggling]. So like webb and LV, and even lance armstrong, he has a pretty crazy aerobic base from swimming. Does anyone know if he still cross trains a bit?

I'm not sure many in the sport would agree that training is just a "guessing game".
The commentator said the pacemaker had been instructed to get to 800 metres in 1.52. After a ridiculously fast first lap the pacemaker slowed substantially on the second lap and didn’t make that target. However, can anyone explain why such a fast split was required, when Tanner’s pb was in the 3:49 range. Surely, evenly paced laps in the 57/58 second range would have resulted in a better outcome for both runners.
