Chance NYC Marathon result gets removed? Based on the timing its possible.
Very sad news. Korir was an absolute marathon machine. His consistency over the past decade (2015-2025) is unmatched by any world class runner (at that slightly slower, particular level).
He's not a 2:02:00/2:03:00 guy, but at the - 2:08:00 standard his consistency almost defies belief.
2015 2:21:14. Eldoret (altitude) age 21
2016 2:10:08. Barcelona 22
2017 2:08:40 Vienna 23
2018 2:08:17 Otsu 24
2019 2:08:03 Ottawa 25
2021 2:08:22 NY 27
2022 2:13:27 NY 28
2023 2:06:57 NY 29
2024 2:08:00 NY 32025 2:08:22 Ottawa 31
Before burying the guy, let's get the full story.
Come on Rekrunner, aren't your constant excuses for all these dopers getting old?
Yeah we should ban them for letting them get caught, so they do an Ethiopia and brush the positive tests under the rug and try to send athletes to competitions anyways.

Did they say yet when he tested positive? NYC is over 2 months ago, and many but not all suspensions came within 2 months of the test.
A positive test should mean removal of the past couple of years results. The window thing is silly and doesn’t have enough consequences, look at the state of the female marathon record now.
STOP inviting and paying Kenyans to race in your event. Nobody cares about them and they don’t bring anything to the event. Every single one of them cheat.
Make prize money only for US citizens.
Invite other nations for sure, they can bring competition and eyes to the sport but why are they so obsessed with bringing Kenyans just so the course record can be broken. Much better publicity in athletes people know and follow and are fans of, even if not sub 2:05 guys, ones who are on the scene for a bit not these one or two hit wonders who dope and disappear.

But banning a 2:06 Kenyan is not the same as banning a 2:06 American/European. As long as WADA and other anti-doping agencies can get their bust quota, it's easier and less damaging to the sport to do it to Kenyans than the slew of other nations that are also doping.
You think those same drugs aren't in Ethiopia, Uganda? The US? Spain? Morocco? Cmon. Someone is supplying it, and I highly doubt that it's a home grown product
Every week this board is full of 'Ban Kenya!' and rightfully so- but what a brilliant smokescreen it is for the world to jump on one nation and let every other run wild.
Completely unrelated, but I'm quite happy that the whole "a titan will fall" fiasco from a few years back continues to be referenced. Truly a legendary thread in LetsRun history.
He began his career in 2015 or 2016 and ran every year or most years in the 208 range showing amazing consistency and despite presumably multiple doping tests was never caught until now so the question is when did he start (doping) - and by the way I'm not excusing what he did, but I'm thinking that probably in the early years of his incredible career he was (probably ) clean.
Korir had the most deceptive, undervalued stride in distance running and he looked like he was jogging when running at well under five minute pace. Dude was prototype marathon formatted.
Kenyans, naturally more gifted / environmentally more gifted / hardship tested since birth, are getting caught doping. And they are not absolutely crushing the Americans?
Are we to believe that the US is so pure?
Believe this: USADA is a sham. Its primary design is to help the American athlete. Get popped with a (+) test? You now have an injury. Sit away from competition a few months, train secretly. Return to competition with a surprising result. Start a CERA cycle? Phone a friend when your levels -- which you are checking daily-- have dropped to undetectable. Get 1 of your 5 tests this year. Compete well and chase records.
Do you, in your heart of hearts, believe that Yared Nuguse has run the 4th fastest mile, of ALL TIME, eating Wheaties? Behind two, heavily suspected PED dopers, which would mean that he's maybe even run the 2nd fastest mile, of ALL TIME. Out of the millions, dare I say BILLIONS, of track athletes across the world and across decades. Across the doping decades! Yared Nuguse. #4.
Kenya is a problem. But at least they're addressing it.

5x NYC podiums, but "only" a 2:06:57 pb, albeit @ NYC. What are we supposed to believe if a "racer" with a 2:06-high pb is on the juice. That he's the only one doing it? Most people, after all, test clean. It's all a joke. Where's the line? What mark am I supposed to believe is clean? & now we've got a bunch of former pros heading to the enhanced games. I'm supposed to believe they were clean their whole careers & now want to pursue this new opportunity. What's going to be funny is how the times won't be any faster at that sham of an event. It's getting harder & harder to get excited for fast performances. That's why a runner like Korir was fun. He was a racer like a Meb-type. You could speculate what he could run on a fast course, but he mostly ran NYC/Boston for place. & I get the ban Kenya stuff, but it feels a touch naive to think a WMM podium finisher from a certain country is dirtier than everyone else. Maybe that's true. Maybe other runners testing clean are taking designer drugs that don't come up banned. Maybe other runners are better at beating tests. I know Kenyan runners get popped often. That doesn't make me think Kenya is doing it differently than everyone else. Maybe they're behind on methods that don't get you caught. Idk.

Pb of 2.06. Pretty shocking that even when doping he's still slower than white guys and Japanese.
This comment doesn’t make sense to me. He’s won and been on the podium several times.
+1
Plus the 2:06 was run in NYC.
In any case, doping does not automatically result in a 2:03. Usually it "just" improves your time by a few minutes. So some 2:06 runners dope, some do not, just like some 2:10 runners dope, and some do not.

I believe that was from a poster called “stablemaster”. He apparently had boots on the ground experience with Kenya, and had developed contacts within the country. I believe that whoever it was that the rumor was about skated by.
