Pros place way too much value on Boston. Outside of running nerds, nobody cares about the race.
Shalane became a national celebrity as a result of winning NYC. No one outside of the running world cared about Des winning Boston.
Conner would be wise to get healthy and try to win NYC. He has nothing to prove time wise.
Exactly. And I don’t really see anybody approaching his ARs in the half or the marathon, unless Fisher, Young, Blanks decide to take a crack at them. But I don’t see any indication from those guys they are planning to move up anytime soon. Hell, Mantz wouldn’t have anything to prove even if someone breaks his records. He has already solidified his status as one of the all time greats at the long races. It might be wise to take a long break for a few months and then maybe try to mix it up on the track a little bit in the spring. It probably will help running some faster intervals. Then he can run NY in the fall.
He form is a bit awkward and I'd imagine it stresses one side of his body more than the other. Eventually that caught up to him. Also running on supershoes ALL the time wasn't beneficial.

Ever see another distance runner get a reaction like this on a national television show? I’ve haven’t seen anything close.
The injuries he’s had have generally worked in his favor, similar to Radcliffe and Ritz, every string of spectacular 120 mile weeks leading to 2-3 weeks of 0 Injuries keep Mantz in the game, self enforced periodization

Fisher is going to run a HM in 2026, not sure he'd be going after the AR on his first race but he is going to dabble on the roads since it is an off year. He even mentioned a 10k/marathon double for LA which is crazy to think about.
Boston is just 15 weeks away and things aren't looking promising at this point. He tried a bit of running a few days ago, just a half mile of walk/jog, but that's been it. Just lots of time on the arc trainer and pool. It's been about 6 weeks now since the injury. At this point, getting fit for Boston is going to be tough, and maybe not even advisable given the circumstance. Anyone know more about what specifically is going on?
Mantz is a weird guy. After every marathon he takes no time off from running and within two weeks he’s back to workouts. Within a month he’s back to HARD workouts. Then add this marathon he ran with his wife on top of that. Of COURSE he got hurt

There have been a lot of people throughout the history of the Olympic Games that have done the 10K & marathon double. It's not like it is a new thing. It does matter a lot though as to what the schedule is to make it happen. Frank Shorter ran both the 10,000 meters and the marathon at the 1972 Munich Olympics, finishing fifth in the 10K and winning gold in the marathon a few days later
I may be able to help. Does anyone know specificallly what he's dealing with because I can send over some specific self healing tech. I"m a PT and have a way to heal the chronic and hard to fix up stuff. Here's the post I sent to Conner's instagram. Ralph Havens PT Bellingham WA hey Conner, I know this is out of the blue but I heard about your injury. Not sure what it is but I may have an answer for you. if you like try some of these techniques. very simple 90 second techniques and see if it changes stuff. Let me know specifically what's going on and I can send more specific tech your way. I"m in Bellingham WA if you want me to take a closer look. Ralph Havens PT I will leave my substack here for you too.

It’s called being young. Now that he’s pushing 30 he’s not gonna be able to get away with it anymore.

We have enough Youth, What we need is a Fountain of Smart.
Yeah bro I'm sure all the AR holder, Nike-backed pro with access to the best support team money can buy needs is your self promoted slop
Reminds me of that mor-on form coach who was criticizing Emily Sisson.😂😂
When it comes to self-appointed gurus, I’m not sure which one is worse, running or lifting.
Why do you assume the worst in people? Maybe the guy genuinely wants to help. I saw him offer help to Rojo when he was complaining about chest pain a while ago. Check out his posts here, his website, and social media. He seems legit and kindhearted.

sorry I meant it is crazy to think about Grant Fisher doing it, not the double in general

If by help, you mean getting into Mantz’s wallet, then yeah.

Huh? Any athlete, in any sport, will tell you that injuries suck. It’s devastating to overnight, go from near peak fitness to hanging it out in a pool. If shutting down training for a couple of months made sense then everyone would do it and no injury would be needed.

I'm sorry you've been hurt so deeply/many times in your life that you can't believe there are good people in the world.
He hit an absolute home run of a marathon in Chicago and got a little too excited coming back. All he had to do was sit on the couch and eat pizza for 2 weeks and actually recover.
