It’s out of date, it’s in a terrible part of town, the service sucks and all of the food tastes like cardboard. Just like every Waffle House.
Sounds like you haven't been to KONT in at least 30 years.
The last time was about ten years ago. My flight got cancelled last minute. I rebooked for the early flight the next day. The dining options were extremely limited. Got kicked out of the terminal when the airport closed for the night. Slept on the floor by check in rather than the cheap hotel in East LA the airport was offering for five hours). It was probably the worst travel experience of my life. Doesn’t help it is in the Inland Empire, which is where all the pollution from LA ends up and all the addicts come to do drugs in the desert. Haven’t been back since. East LA is still a pit.

Uh, Ontario is no where near East L.A.
Hard to take you seriously when you don't understand the local geography.
Landing - always been turbulence on approach + the 405 looks scary close going over it.
Takeoff - Pilot shuts off engines until plane gets over the ocean.
Hard to walk to the streets - no good signage. I once got lost in the parking garage for an hour before realizing I had to go another way to reach MacArthur.
Only one municipal bus serves the airport and it runs infrequently, like the route was made with KSNA as an afterthought.
I travel internationally for work 2-3 times a month. My home airport in Nashville, TN, sucks. The terminals themselves are nice and there's plenty of bars and stuff, but getting in and out of the airport with ubers, dropoffs, pickups, etc is a freaking nightmare. Google all the traffic issues that airport has had over the years. People getting OUT of cars 2+ miles away from the airport ON THE INTERSTATE if there's a fender bender near the airport.
I once got out of a jet down the gangway steps, walking across the tarmac to the terminal when a railroad style stop bar kept us from crossing so a Cesna could go out of the runway
London Heathrow. Old, crowded, dirty , smells like body odor with perfume, overpriced. London Heathrow is what GB is , not what old school England was suppose to be.

John Wayne is fine, other than you can drive right past it without realizing it’s an airport. It looks like any other office building.

It’s wedged between East LA and San Bernardino. It’s lovely if you enjoy smog, pawn shops, budget motels and having your car stolen. John Wayne is more South of LA, which is the better part of the area and closer to the beach. Honestly, LAX isn’t bad other than the traffic. Nice thing about LAX is if you can go to the beach to pass time before your flight. San Diego is nice in that regard, as well.

Wedged?
What about the San Gabriel Valley between East L.A. and Ontario, and most of the IE between Ontario and San Bernardino.
Please don't tell me you are calling OC South Los Angeles.

I consider north to the valley, east to the inland empire and south to Camp Pendleton to be part of the Greater Los Angeles metro, and I’m not the only one.
Greater Los Angeles is the most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. state of California, encompassing five counties in Southern California extending from Ventura County in the west to San Bernardino County and Riverside Co...
I consider LAX, Orange County, Ontario and Burbank to be Los Angeles airports. I would include Santa Ana in South LA (although distinct from South Central LA).
